When you hit the switch on a lamp, you probably have some preconceived notions about where the light is going to come from. It’s time to purge your mind of such design prejudices and embrace the weird and impractical; this “WTF, not what I thought” lamp, designed by John Nouanesing, will challenge your notions of what a lighting device should be.
Well, maybe that’s putting it a bit strongly, but it’s a pretty cool little idea. You could probably build your own by just mounting a lampshade on top of a fluorescent bulb, but it wouldn’t be quite as cool.

I would love one of these lamps, especially for my newly decorated and designed bedroom. It’s quite striking. A real visual feature. Rgds Vince
So what exactly is the point of the shade ?
Exactly.
look like a real one ;)
Without the shade you lose the clear “opposite” nature of the lamp.
in instead of the shade being LIGHT and the lamp being dark the SHADE is dark and the lamp is light.
Actually, if this was a truly opposite lamp, the shade would light up as well. The only thing dark would be the ‘bulb’.
