Psystar put up good fight. The small company first released a $399 Mac clone little over a year ago followed by rackmount servers a little later. The company was eventually sued by Apple for using OS X on clone machines. But Psystar showed some backbone and sued Apple back . But even if Psystar had secret financial backing, the company just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Chances are that the Apple dream team will steamroll the company after this news. The bankrupt company probably cannot withstand the legal fees needed to stand up to Jobs & Co. any more. It’s too bad. Many anti-Apple, and even some Mac fanboys, have applauded Psystar’s bravado for standing up to Apple for so long. Ah well, as Apple squashes one clone maker, two more pop up in its place.

I’ll gladly take any liquidated stock that they will be pawning off.
And people call MS monopolistic…
Does apple sell their OS as a retail product? If they do, then you can put it on what ever hardware you can get to run it.
Lets get MS to provide its legal team. You can bet MS legal Dept is probably as large as Apple is as a whole.
Microsoft is a legal monopoly. Apple is not. However, that has no bearing on this debate.
The problem is that Psystar was BUNDLING OS X with their machines; Apple’s ToS clearly states that you cannot resell or bundle it, an OS X license is for end-user use only.
If they would’ve just sold OS X-capable machines, there would’ve been no issues.
I think the way apple do business is not much better than Microsoft except for one thing: they deliver a better product that works well. The idea on doing high end only is stupid though: as long as they don’t sell cheap computers companies like Psystar will crop up. They should create a “cheap brand” like Asus did with Asrock, that way they would protect the image of their main brand and provide cheaper OSX computer to those that want them.
It seems to me that Apple is still bitter from getting pwnd by MS for the better part of the last 30 years. I understand that they offer high end electronics but I don’t recall hearing anything about Mercedes going after VW in the 30’s for creating an affordable alternative to the german engineered auto. Be happy with the profits Psystar gives you from OSX. Its not like they’re selling the same copy of pirated software to every customer.
