got mine!!! my WONDERFUL hubby didnt want me there by myself & my 8 yr old did NOT want to get up at 5 am & go, so he went by himself. I was surprised cuz he told me Monday he was soooo sick of hearing me talk about that effin phone!! lol – he got there at 6am there were 2 cars in the lot but nobody in line.
at 7:30 i told him to go start the line – sure enough a few more people followed. Our BB had 10 & I (technically my husband) was first in line.
BB rep came out at 9 and gave “line tix” and started the paperwork.
The first one they tried to activate was defective so sorry to the person who was #10 and didnt get a pre!!
I got mine and will be playing with it for the rest of the day (at least)!!!! Talk more at http://www.PalmPreForum.org see ya there.

Using success as a criteria for bias cannot be the reason you advocate so strongly for Apple. Last time I checked, MICROSOFT was THE most successful software company on the planet, yet I don’t see it mentioned at all!

1. You don’t know exactly what’s available for developers to make apps for the Pre. Therefore, your “HTML + css + javascript” claim is unbased. Their framework for developing apps gives you access to the Pre’s functionality with a low learning curve.

2. Palm’s Mojo SDK can pretty much do anything a “full-blown API” (which I assume you mean is a framework for natively compiled apps in the language. Of course, Mojo is a “full-blown API”, so you lose on that account as well) can on the Palm Pre.

3. TJ, “Noobs” … “Noobs” … “noobs”… “If you know anything about programming you would agree with me.”

As a software developer, this comment makes me smile. Realize, TJ, that, as you acknowledged, a powerful language like JavaScript CAN be adapted with the right framework to create as compelling an experience as any compiled language on a smartphone.

We will see if Palm’s Mojo SDK is indeed that framework. For now, passing any judgment in this regard is pointless as we don’t have all the facts.

After sticking with Palm for a while, I have grown to hate and mistrust them as much as the next guy…

But seriously, you can’t come to all these conclusions based on pre-release speculation and hearsay. You talk about the Pre as if it’s already been released and tested, but until it has, you’re probably better off couching your statements as what they are: wild guesses.

This all reminds me of last year. Iphone 3g was getting close to being unveiled, and the iphone 1.0 was getting a little long in the tooth. In comes sprint, touting their ” iphone killer ” samsung instinct that was in some ways better than the iphone 1.0. Sprint launched a multi-million dollar advertising campaign comparing the instinct to the iphone, with a huge emphasis on the iphones lack of 3g. After just a few weeks of the instinct being available the iphone 3g was announced, along with the 2.0 software, and it crushed the instinct in every regard. Frankly i think the pre will be far more relevant over time than the instinct was, but it really just competes well with the iphone 3g. With a new iphone right around the corner, how relevant will the pre really be ( unless your stuck on sprint )?
