E3 2009: The Old Republic – first cinematic trailer of Bioware’s Star Wars MMO

Those crazy Star Wars types. Always like to make a scene. The music came on with no warning so I missed the first part of the fanfare, but I sure didn’t miss the two dozen lightsaber-bearing eunuchs (I think) that accompanied the Bioware and LucasArts dudes on the stage. They announced that The Old Republic will be the first-ever fully voiced MMORPG. That’s a lot of voice acting, and they say it might even be the most in any single project ever. Aside from that we got to see the first cinematic trailer, which gives literally no idea what gameplay might be like, yet is totally awesome.

Why can’t the movies be like the Star Wars games?

  • Wow… horrible taste by the developers/designers here.

I was immediately reminded of 9/11 with the spacecraft crashing into the building.

    Unless….

  • “but I sure didn’t miss the two dozen lightsaber-bearing eunuchs”

Cute comment asshole. How about you realize that we are all fans of certain genres. Perhaps you might be offended if I called you a mom’s-basement-dwelling-cheeto-eating-gamer-fanboy-with-a-blog.

For your information Lucasarts and Bioware requested we make those costumes for their big debut and 25 of us spent countless hours and dollars towards this volunteer effort. Give us a little credit next time.

P.S. I don’t need to hide behind a blog. Feel free to email me and note I left my real name

  • The way that I read his response, he was one of the costume makers AND one of those that got to wear it at a Highly-Anticpated premiere event. Have some respect for the skill and amount of time invested.

He doesn’t need a sense of humor, it’s just a statement of fact.

Unless the original author actually took the time to investigate his claim of whether the “lightsaber-bearing eunuchs” actually were just that.

  • It would seem that Devin (the author of the article) had his star wars puppy killed at some point so talking down about the movies, and the people involved on stage stimulated his craving to let everyone know.

I think Ian speaks as an individual, not for the group. I cant imagine everyone feeding into Devins remark.

    *shrug*

  • I think you’re all idiots.

  • For the record, I wasn’t trolling. I don’t think crashing planes into buildings is appropriate with all due to respect.

Anyway, I should have reserved my comment since there are so many angry Star Wars Fans out there who can’t see beyond their dorkdom.

Enjoy your MMO — you deserve some happiness in life!

  • First of all I never seen a plane in any of the Star Wars movies or games, if you can’t play a game or watch a movie without you crying about something that happen 8 years ago I think you need to get on with your life and move on.
Now to the lightsaber-bearing eunuchs I have lightsabers my self I am a big Star Wars fan and if I could of did that I would, and I’m not as big of a dork or nerd as you that turned on your camera to record it or is at the convention drooling at the new games. I would love for you to call me a dork to my face you have my email and I live in the area
