E3 2009: Interview with Jonathan Wendel, AKA Fatal1ty

Fatal1ty, the world’s most recognizable (and most frequently name-checked) pro gamer, took a little time out of his busy schedule giving stuff away for OCZ to have a little chat with us. His press shots have him mugging like a bro who just took you down in Halo and is ready for his close-up, but in reality he’s a pretty straightforward guy. That said, having an entire line of gaming peripherals named after you does imply he possesses only vestigial modesty. We talk about the new model of Fatal1ty headphones with intelligent voice filtering, old-school gaming, and whether or not regular Excitebike had a two-player mode (it doesn’t, I maintain).

I don’t hold it against him, though. Maybe he was thinking of RC Pro Am or something. They need to have more tournaments with games like that, instead of dirty Counter-Strike and that sort of thing. We’ll see what we can do about getting a pair of those headphones to review, they sound cool.

  • I met him, and he was cool. I watched his shootout, and some of his shots and moves in Quake 4 were unbelievable!! His level of play was so frigin high!! I tried on one of his new MKII headsets while he wipped the floor with my ass – and it is a great headset set, comfort and sound was WOW!!!
