Raise your hand if you thought Microsoft’s press conference was a bit of a bore this morning? Aside from Natal, I wasn’t all that impressed by any of the upcoming titles (except for Conviction and maybe The Beatles Rock Band) or the updates to Xbox Live. Lionhead really stole the show when they unveiled a little AI boy named Milo.
Built around Natal, Lionhead Studios has created an immersive and shockingly human-like AI that you can interact with and that recognizes tone of voice and your face. Of course, the demo was filmed a while back at Lionhead Studios (after countless takes, I’m sure), but who knows what other developers will do with Natal. Microsoft really hit it out of the park today and I’m crossing my fingers that Natal is all it’s cracked up to be.
Oh, and Milo creeps me out.

I thought Microsoft had an incredibly strong showing, especially after so many expected a push into the casual market with a lack of “hardcore” titles. People knew the ones that were definitely going to be there (ODST), but the surprises (MGS) along with a 3D camera that seemed to actually made sense, and a complete push into social networking with Twitter and Facebook/Facebook Connect support (not to mention the freaking Beatles, Spielberg, and Kojima) really made for a great show. Honestly I don’t know how Sony or Nintendo is going to top that. I guess I’ll find out at the pressers tomorrow?
If you want to know what boring is, go ahead and watch Ubi’s press conference. THAT was boring. Oh, and Milo creeps me out too.
Thats pretty damned cool. I’ll get on board with this tech once they offer a Motoko Kusanagi version, or even a Tachikoma! :D
This kind of reminds me of the Sony Eye Toy, except more advanced and complete in what they were trying to achieve. They were just ahead of their time is all.
