Are any of you ardent Sony PS3 supporters concerned with the way things have turned out? You lost Final Fantasy exclusivity (well, outside of Japan) at last year’s E3, and Metal Gear this year. Those are two of the biggest franchises that made PlayStation what it is today. Or what it was yesterday, as it were. I’m just trying to think, if I were to buy a PS3 today, what’s in it for me?
I can think of a few reasons why you’d spring for a PS3 over an Xbox 360 before looking at each system’s respective library:
• You hate Microsoft or love Sony.
• You don’t want to pay for Xbox Live, so you opt for the free PSN.
• You just so happen to want a machine that can play games as well as Blu-ray discs.
Keep in mind that plenty of big games are multi-platform, if unequally so (that is, no DLC for the PS3 version, or just a long Xbox 360 timed exclusivity). You’ve got Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter, GTA IV, Fallout 3, Modern Warfare, etc. Hundreds of stuff.
But PS3-exclusive? How many of those are left? God of War, Uncharted, maybe Gran Turismo if it ever comes out… I can’t really think of too many PS3-exclsuive games that would make me want to shell out $400, especially when I’d be be able to buy a 360 for $200.
To be fair, are there any Xbox 360-exclusive games that make my mouth water? Eh, not really. Fable II was fun, sure, but it would not have made me buy the system just to play it. Same thing with Halo: fun, yeah, but not something I’d go crazy over.
Come to think of it, maybe the days of platform-exclusive games are long gone? Development costs are so high these days that publishers can only break even by putting the game on as many systems as possible. Why else would Konami “join the dark side”?
I don’t know, it just seems like Sony’s in a weird position right now. Let’s hope it all turns out for the best.
The PS3 is overpriced, over sized, and at this point it hasn’t lived up to it’s gaming promise.
Honestly, there really isn’t any reason to buy a PS3, if you’re really into games. 360 is the place to be. If you want a Blue Ray player, get one in addition to the 360. At least you’ll have some good games to play, and a system that keeps getting better.

Do yourself a favor – play the same Xbox 360 and PS3 game side-by-side. If the noise from the 360 doesn’t get to you after about 15 minutes of playtime, time to check your hearing aid, my friend…
Personally I’m waiting for the PS3 price to drop so I can buy a blu ray player that happens to play games should I decide to explore that option.

I have a bluray drive in my htpc and a 360 for gaming. I have no reason to have both. I have a Wii for parties…about all it’s really good for.

We own PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. The PS3 in our house is the entertainment system we run DVD and Blu-Ray movies off it. I easy encode videos and have an external drive connected to it for home movies, photos, etc.. We play the 360 don’t get me wrong we love them all. Two points the PS3 at $400 comes with a 80 GB hard drive. The $200 Xbox….not so much. I would still go with the Arcade pack because it does come with the latest chip set while the only other version is the $500 Elite package with RE5.
Again plus and minus to both I think if our Xbox 360 was a bit more reliable and had blu-ray we would use it more.

Wow, Ryan. James never said ANYTHING about the 360 being reliable. Look at closer attention at his last sentence and you’ll notice he was clearing stating “IF OUR”. I personally own both the 360 and PS3, I am a fanboy of neither. I love both consoles strictly for their games.
I would prefer the PS3 more simply if had it more RPGs available on the console. When Final Fantasy is finally released for the next generation of consoles, I will be getting it for the PS3.
Last generation, the PS2 was far less powerful to both Xbox and Gamecube in both graphics and processing, but it held on strong because it’s key to it’s success were simply it’s great library of games and also the ability to play a line of games from PlayStation of the generation before.
PS3 is much more reliable and much quieter during operation as opposed to the 360 as well as having the upper handle in performance and builtin technology.
After reading this you should note that simply being the most powerful console doesn’t instantly make you a winner, but it’s the selection and choice of games based on what people like to play. You can argue with me about this but you are not making a point because anything otherwise would only be based on opinion.
Both the PS3 and 360 have excellent games, those who think otherwise keep in mind that is just only your opinion on what you like to play. Also stating that something is ‘overrated’ is only an opinion as well.
A console should only be considered superior in your minds. All machines as well as everything has their defects. This world will never be free of it.
I am neither pro-PS3 nor am I for the 360. I only care about the games, that is all.
Okay I have to state that I love the PS3 a bit slightly more than 360, because the games which are originals released exclusive to PS3, to me, were a bit more exciting, intense, and realistic. The PS3 holds a lot of potential with it’s power and should continue to high performance for years to come. It is all due to IBM’s Cell Broadband chip it is comparitive to the performance of a supercomputer chip. It can handle physics and characters far better than the 360. Also the PS3 is fully capable of handling a lot PhysX features extremely well simply because of it’s archetecture. The 360 on the other hand, because of it’s archetecture it is limited in hardware compatibility with a lot of PhysX functions.
That is why some games using PhysX give a far more realistic experience on the PS3 than to the 360.
xbox360 is a battery gobbler, watch out, they didnt tell you that when you bought it or if you are gonna buy it.

They’re all great games (xbox only), but given that most games are on both systems, and these games are pretty fun to play, that is enough for me to be on xbox.
The only things that had me going to the Playstation was Gran Turismo and Tekken. Tekken is coming to Xbox, and Forza is great competition to GT. And with all the awesome stuff MS announced yesterday and in the past with Fbook and Netflix..why wouldn’t you get an Xbox?!
The cheap and faulty hardware should be enough to dissuade anyone from getting an Xbox, if it weren’t so damn cheap already.

I can actually think of more third party exclusives for PS3 than 360 this year. Demon’s Souls (being published by Atlus in the US), Afrika (by Natsume), Last Rebellion, Super Car Challenge, Cross Edge..and then of course, all of Sony’s own stuff. Microsoft only has 5 or 6 exclusives for the rest of 2009, virtually none of them third party.
Microsoft playing catch-up on Sony on Final Fantasy and MGS doesn’t mean diddly squat to a prospective PS3 owner. Those games are still coming to PS3, they’ve not been ‘lost’.

The biggest thing for me is FFXIII and I’m only buying a PS3 so that I can play it. Even though Xbox is cheaper, it can’t handle a game like FFXIII, the graphics are amazing and an Xbox wasn’t made to support those kind of graphics.
In addition, stupid microsoft and their catch-up playing means that people who actually want to play it have to wait longer whichever console they play it! Selfish!

OMG Nicholas you are right. I mean I keep trying not to admit it to myself but we lost this generation. I own all the current consoles but I mainly support my PS3. That’s probably because I gave my 360 to my little brother. His died twice already my PS3 died once. Either way getting back on the subject you are right we dont have many exclusives left. It makes me sad to think that Sony isnt what it was back when Resident evil first came out.
Do any of you remember when Sony first started. Remember all the great games it had Tekken, Tekken2, RE, RE2, Marvel Vs. Capcom. It almost makes me teary eyed to think that a great console like a PSX can be left in the dust in this current generation console race. This is a sad day indeed, I will finally admit to myself that we lost and now I must go find something black to wear. Long live Sony in my memories.
For the record I still love my PS3 and even though it lacks exclusives Ill play the hell out of Guitar Hero 3, and Metallica I welcome any challengers.

I’m currently playing through the excellant inFamous. Uncharted, killzone 2, MGS4 and Little Big Planet are all existing exclusives that MS would kill for.
God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, GT5, ratchet and Clank and the secretive Project Trico will define PS3 over the next 12 months. All that and we get to play as the Joker in a graphically superior Batman: Arkham Asylum.
360 is serving a great function as a entry level console for those on a budget. Serious gamers that don’t own a PS3 will probaly be tempted to upgrade from their 360 to the PS3 over the next year.
I would still buy a PS3 anyday over a Xbox 360 ! Look at this you buy a PS3 you get a Blu- Ray Player built in Wifi. And pretty much the same games with Great Exclusives like MLB The Show 09, Killzone 2, Infamous just to name a few. And the main Reason i wouldn”t buy a Xbox 360 is because 1 in 10 break down Red Lights over heats there garbage. Sure there 200 dollars cheaper than the PS3 but seriously do you want to wait for a box and pay 150 bucks and wait 2 months everytime it breaks down. All of my friends have PS3 and rarely ever do you hear of a PS3 breaking down. Plus look at the resale value if you ever wanna sell it you can obviously get more for it on Ebay or Craigslist. Nobody wants or trusts buying a used 360 anywhere do to there track record. So i would definetly buy a ps3 just for peace of mind knowing that my system was built well and not thinking of a possible red ring of death.

I workfor a electronic company, i sell lots of xb360 and ps3. The majority of defect we get back are from the xb360. i been at this company for 5 years and i seen more xbox360 console coming in to get fix then the PS3. I tell peoples the main different between ps3 and xb360 is at the moment xb360 got the best online play then the P3. I own a PS3 and i love it. If someone don’twantt o play online that much then to me it better to go with a PS3. you would be wasting your $50 a years for the subscriptin. I don’t have time to played games. Like other peoples does. The reason i chose the PS3 is because i never see them coming back for return or repair as xbox 360. Even with the new chipset we still got customer coming in to send there xb360 to repair. According to my sony rep in the store, Sony coming out with a new 10 layers Blue ray discs and all you have to do is the firmware update and also a 1TB Hard drive. So let see in about 3 years when sony begin having game on a 10 layers disc the game. The new xbox that will be out will be a dinosaur. MS ripped off Nintendo for ther avatar on line communitites. While sony used Sims type characters that look like peoples.
I say Sony Consoles will alway be better then anything Microsoft come out with. MS rule the Age of Empire games with AGE of Empire 3. I was very disappointed in the game. There was no challenger in the game. If you run out of resourcves you can get them from your home port. The original AOE games were more challenging if you run out of resources you have to find some to make your self stonger
The 360 is too unreliable and has far to little exclusive content to be worth owning. As a core gamer who purchases multiple systems I prefer reliability (I hate having to constantly replace Dreamcasts, NES’s, etc…) and I don’t care about multi-platform games that just turn out better on the PC 95% of the time. The PS3 may be an overpriced disappointment but games like LittleBigPlanet are worth playing. Hopefully the executives at SCE get their act together this year although I doubt it.
I love my PS3. Let’s not forget Little Big Planet! And Dead Space, what a GREAT game, total sleeper hit. I hope they make another one…dismemberment is the new head shot!
I’m currently having fun with Fallout 3 and Tomb Raider, peppered with the occassional 15 minute work break in LBP. I don’t get a lot of time to play, but when I do I’m glad I have a PS3 (and a Wii, hitting a few balls in the new Tiger Woods golf sounds like a good idea about now…)
Now that blu ray players are down in price, it’s probably time to sell the PS3. It does play blu ray movies very nicely.

It’s amazing how well Microsoft marketing works on people. That cheap $200 360 Arcade really fools everyone. How many people actually stick with just the barebones? Most people like to play online which for the 360 requires an additional $100 hard drive and most people also probably get the $100 wifi dongle. So that easily launches the 360 up to the $400 PS3 price that everyone hates so much. On top of that the 360 charges a monthly fee for online play and it doesn’t have a blu-ray player which gives the PS3 even more value.
When you stack all the desired features side by side PS3 is clearly the better value but everyone ignores that and compares the 80gb, free online gameplay, built in wifi, built in blu-ray PS3 to the barebones, no hard drive, no wifi, no blu-ray, no online gameplay XBOX 360 Arcade. It’s not a fair comparison yet everyone does it.
dont forget about the 10 dollars a week on batteries like most of my friends who are to lazy or cheap to buy the charge pack which is another 30 bucks each.
Will you STFU with the batteries, and a charge kit is $20 and $10 for any extra batteries for life not a week you a-hole.

Ot having any good game and dying twice i just bought ps3 and i just foundyself how fool was i for ignoring this game like liitle big metal gear killzone infamous umcharted …. I have never seem such aassive gaMeplay in 360 ever. Gears was the only thing to killzone.
One thing I wonder about is how many discs will it take for the Metal Gear game on a standard DVD? I know Kojima said once he couldn’t have put MGS4 on a single DVD and only blue ray had enough capacity.
I just hope he doesn’t trim down the game to make it fit on a DVD for Xbox.
I cant almost gaurantee this game is going to be gimped down to somthing smaller then MGS4. This isnt even a real Metal Gear title. its Metal Gear in name only. When he made his presentation about the new Metal Gear for PSP he called it a “true sequal” in the series, one of which he would be heavily involved in. Not like this Raiden trash konami bugged him to put out on 360. I bet you anything hes only releasing this and the PSP game to raise funds for MGS5 exclusive to the PS3. i cant see him dumbing down a real sequal in the series just accomodate the 360. Everyone thought this was going to be MGS5. but its not.

The answer to this is so very simple:
1) Sony 1st/2nd party games rarely/never come out for PC
2) My PC annihilates the 360 (and PS3 for that matter)
– Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 3.0G
– 4G DDR3 PC12800@ 1500MHZ (clocks at 1600, but the extra isn’t necessary unless my CPU is at 3.2G)
– GTX260 Core 216
– EVGA nForce 790i FTW mobo
3) My PC contains parts and hardware that _I_ know, are quality
4) Games for Windows Live = XBLA, and it’s free
5) 99% of 360 ‘exclusives’ come out for PC
Given the above is true. There are some realities here. Gran Turismo 5, and GoWIII, will never be available, anywhere else, other than the PS3. Plain and simple. I can’t go without the Gran Turismo series, so, that alone is enough for me to purchase a PS3. The rest, is simply a bonus.
So, in closing, I actually don’t buy any multi-platform games for the PS3 anymore (except fighting, SFIV, Tekken etc…). Playing GTAIV on my PC @ 1920×1200 resolution is quite satisfying…and getting all the DLC for free just plain rocks. And…I never have to worry about my PC breaking down, having to box it up and ship it back to MS. That may be ok for some people, and honestly, I don’t hold that against them…if that’s ok with you, so be it. But not me. I’m not about to let a game sit for a day, a week, 2 weeks, or however long it’s going to take for them to fix it. Once, let alone multiple times.
To each their own, but bottom line, Gran Turismo > All, in my book. So, gotta have a PS3.

Actually, believe it or not they did a really good job of hardware scaling on GTAIV, in fact, it’s one of the only games that uses all cores in a Quad. 3 are used for the game. 1 is reserved for physics calculations. As for benchmarks hmm, I hit ~12100 in 3DVantage 2008. In GTA, it’s a bit different, because it requires an ASTRONOMICAL amount of RAM. My GPU has 869M, by PC has 4g, and due to ‘lack of RAM’ I can only push texture detail to medium (everything else is maxed). But, to push texture detail to Max, I’d need either dual or tri SLI, I think.

I really have to get Gran Turismo for my PS3, loved all of the originals on both the PS2 and the original PlayStation. I could never get away from any of them, they were perhaps my most favorite racing games. Project Gotham Racing on the Microsoft consoles just couldn’t even hold up a candle to any of the Gran Turismo games. I’ve only played PGR maybe a few times, sort of boring to me to say the least.
I’ve only got a PS3 (and PC). I don’t have a huge library of games and I don’t rent like I used to back in the days of yore. Depending on the game and if it comes out on all platforms, I may get it for PS3. I prefer my racing games on console, though FPS’s on PC (dur)…although I do have Killzone 2 which was great.
I don’t really care if the PS3 has ‘lost’ the exclusiveness of some games, as long as they keep them and I’m able to play. There are some games that are 360 exclusive, that you’ve mentioned, that I wish came out at least on PS3, but…I’m not getting another console. One is enough for me. (+PC!)
I use to be a fanboy of Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, Xbox and this generation Playstation 3… I’ll take games on the PS3 over the XBOX 360 anyday… PS3 have a ton of excellent exclusives and keep in mind, MGS: Rising for the 360 is a totally new series which will also be multi-platform.. MGS 4 is still exclusive to PS3.

I have VERY limited time to play games, so owning a PS3 makes sense — every game I could want to play is here. I enjoy Blu-Ray so owning a PS3 is good there, too. PS3 does not have the level of hardware issues that Xbox had (has?). Therefore, I love my PS3 and would buy it again.

I got a PS3 because it can play all the existing PS games I own and has Blue-Ray which was a selling point for my wife. I also knew that Sony was much more reliable than 360 what with all the recalls, heating issues, RROD and disk scratching. It can also play my DivX library natively. The graphics can be amazing!!
There are 3 downsides to the PS3: I can’t play PS2 games, the external HDD has to be formatted in Fat9 or some crap thus limiting to 4 gigs and there aren’t enough games geared toward my daughters (10 and 6).
Other than that I wouldn’t trade it for any other system out there. Wii is too kid-oriented and goofy.

A nice hint though, external HDD have to be formatted as fat32. FAT32 partitions can be 1TB is size the 4 gig limitation is per file. You can not have one file that is greater than 4 gigs.
Mornelithe pretty much said what I was going to say. I love my PS3 for both its media playback abilities as well as its games. The vast majority of Xbox 360 games I have any interest in — and there aren’t that many — end up coming out for the PC anyway and my PC is already way better than the Xbox 360.
Uncharted, inFamous, God of War III are all games that make the purchase of a PS3 worthwhile. The ability to play Blue-Ray movies and stream video from my PC is icing on the cake. The fact that my original 60GB PS3 is chugging along just fine after hundreds of hours of use when several friends of mine are on their third, fourth, or fifth Xbox 360 thanks to the RRoD just further validates my purchase decision.
I have absolutely no idea how the entire the majority of the United States of America, suddenly, and for no apparent reason, abandoned the DEMAND for quality products. The USA pretty much LEAD the way in quality assurance/control, up until well, Microsoft released the 360.
I understand it provides a great experience, and I don’t want to detract from that, simply because the person who wrote this article is an idiot. But, bottom line, it has THE most abyssmal failure rate in the HISTORY of electronics that actually made it to the market. And people just continue to eat it right up. It’s simply amazing.

Ok, gonna have to disagree with you on that one Ray. Windows may have issues at launch, but that has absolutely nothing to do with hardware failure rates. It mainly has to do with how many different applications/software/servers etc… Windows OS’ have to be compatible with, from the get go. I’d imagine, considering how greedy Apple is (See: Steve Jobs philanthropic endeavors…which amount to stock in Nike shoes), if they owned as much of the worlds market as MS’ OS’ do, Apple would have just as many problems with there OS’.

I have all of the consoles, the wii collects dust, I use both the 360 and PS3. Frankly I follow the games, if a good title is on the 360 I buy it, ditto PS3, or even shudder the wii. All things being equal if a game comes out on both systems and has exclusive DLC for the Xbox360, I go for the 360 version. If not I go for PS3 for two reasons, one and this is the biggest one by far, the PS3 is quiet. It makes no noise, the 360 by comparison sounds like a band saw in a machine shop. The second is that the PS3 is geared much more toward gamers. I don’t need some wii like avatar for my friends list, or horribly bit rate down sampled faux HD netflix experience for my console. I just want to play games and good looking ones at that, sony seems to understand this a lot better than MS.
killzone 2, god of war, the resistance series, uncharted, little big planet, fat princess, mgs4, infamous, heavy rain, ratchet and clank, warhawk, free online play and blu-ray are enough for me to warrant a purchase. xbox is not $200. people forget they have to pay to play online, small hd space and no wifi. the funny thing is when you add up everything ps3 comes out cheaper…

Why pay $400 for a powerful system with incredible graphics and fast processors, that can also play Blue-ray disc. and PS network without a monthly fee. thats 1080p And So on, and so on. I never undertand Xbots loyalty. the Elite model is the same price as the lower model PS3 yet it still doesnt come with half the features the PS3 comes with. i paid 500 for my 60gb model at launch and i would gladly do it again. ive gotten so much use out of it and it hasnt broken once! i even almost set it on fire by accident trying to clean it with that canned air. it still works like new. the PS3 can survive a fire but the 360 cant survive the warmth of using it? pathetic. you xbox loyalists need to wake up. your being scammed.
the price listed for the ps3 comes with hard drive, wireless controller, free online play–use it every night with resistance 2, NBA 2k, and Rock Band, and also a blu ray player.

Again, this is a generalization, one Xbots love to make. For the most part, yes, games are in 720p. Except, Gran Turismo 5 (Forza’s only 720p) and Wipeout HD. Both are 1080p both run at 60fps.
It’s called variety. See, PS3 doesn’t just have 1 FPS and one Third Person Shooter that they repackage every year, and call a new game. They have a ton of different games. Same concept as the PSN, as you say, you get what you pay for. And you paid for a piece of crap.

While its true that most games are native 720P only the 360 upscales. Games like MGS4 and the PS3 version of Bioshock are actuallty native 1080p. Its only possible to render a game in 1080p for the PS3. The Xbox up upscales which causes screen tearing and the scaling chip is now the cause of the infamous E74 error. theyre buring out! lol Crapbox 3fixme.
I agree with Ora. If you saw the press conference today you’d be blown away. The Last Guardian gave me chills it looked so gorgeous. GT5 is going to destroy Forza 3, especially having the WRC and Nascar franchises included in the game. God of War III, no explanation needed for that. Uncharted 2, another great game. Modnation racers was another surprise. Looks like a ton of fun. The new motion controller that will probably hit shelves at least 6 months prior to Natal. MAG (Massive Action Game) looks like the best online military FPS to date. Even more immense and better than BF2. 256 player at 30fps with vehicles. Final Fantasy XIV. Another MGS exlusive for PS3. Not to mention the games out, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Infamous.
Call me a sony fan boy if you want, but I have both systems and the games for PS3 that are in the pipeline are hands down better. The only the Gears has over Killzone 2 is a better cover system, otherwise Killzone 2 was way better. 360 just doesn’t have the same processing power the PS3 does and we’re starting to see it.

we never lost Metal Gear Solid, they never said Rising was exclusive to Xbox only. Its just that Rising will be the start of porting MGS again (Substance and Subsistence were on the original xbox).
And i refuse to buy an xbox since they still didnt fix the damn red ring of death, sure theres tons of ways to fix it but i want a system that can stay alive and isnt defective with cheap stuff just for me to keep paying microsoft more money with their warranty. I had PS3 since the day it came out and it works bloody fine and no issues ever.
oh yea also forgot i dun want to disc swap for tons of games (XIII etc etc). Cause i saw that Star Ocean and the rest have like 2 discs or whatever, I dun disc swap unless its a Psone game.
Speaking of Star Ocean, that might be ported to ps3, cause i know we are getting Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, a better ver. of Infinite Undiscovery, and The Last Remnant :D
At this point I’m fairly certain of a few things:
1. When fanboys read a question which says “Why should I buy one?” they go into insane rant mode rather than simply answering the question. This isn’t something exclusive to Sony fanboys, but if (their product of choice) is so great why can’t they answer that question without pause?
2. Some fanboys have a lot of time on their hands to repeatedly post the same over and over and over again.

Secondly, if Microsoft had great exclusives, THEY WOULDN’T BE BUYING OUT FROM OURS WON’T THEY? Cause they know, GTA4 and FFXIII will put Halo and Gears of War to shame if it came on the PS3. So the more PS3 lose exclusives to Microsoft, the more Microsoft is TELLING YOU they can’t provide you their own!
