Nintendo gives us a sneak peek at the Wii Vitality Sensor

vitalityReady for the future as seen by Nintendo? No, it’s not full body mapping like Project Natal, it’s a little sensor that measures your pulse called the Wii Vitality Sensor. The Nintendo press event didn’t reveal anything as way of specifics besides talking about how people need a way to wind down and measure stress level. But just think how this could be used in a Silent Hill-type game. Where it measures your pulse and your character reacts accordingly. Like if you get startled by the on-screen option, the game character will also be startled. Kind of neat, eh? At least it could be.

We’ll try to nail down more info on the show floor later on, but chances are Nintendo reps aren’t going to know much more than we do. Hopefully though we can at least nail down a target release date and more info on how the add-on will be used.

  • to be honest im not excited nor interested in this little gizmo.

  • Usually I am for innovation, but this is the most ludacris product ever. If I needed to check my blood pressure, I’ll go to the nearest pharmacy or walmart. If I need my temperature checked, I have a thermometer in my medicine cabinet. Come on Nintendo, come up with something more gamer friendly and innovative to take another 30 of our hard earned dollars. This maybe the most gimmicky toy ever and it has nothing to do with hard core gaming. Neither does wii fit. Drop it.

  • Meh… kind of sums it up perfectly really. It looks really dumb too. Should of made it a strap, that would kind of just make sense since you already need to wear one.

  • This should have been either in the controller or like joshua said, in the strap. Wii hasnt made one move to excite me since mega man 9. And that still isnt saying much. The whole wii experience feels like a gimmick to me. Back to the PC for now….

  • I agree with this guys here. It wasn’t a thing to be excited at. Honestly, one can just use a sphygmomanometer to calculate his blood pressure. I’ll just pass on this.

  • They should just build in support for ANT+Sport signals and give an API to the developers to get access.

They get money from the hardware still (which really is what this is about) and get the benefit of tons of products already on the market that run ANT+Sport.

  • I can’t stand you drone-like idiot nerds. Did you read the damn article or did you just come here to complain because you weren’t impressed with what you read on teh internetz?

Try to imagine, with your stale, registry dulled minds, that you’re playing Silent Hill. Something startles you and your pulse increases a bit. The sensor senses this and starts making the game even more intense. Maybe you start slipping into the “eerie world” and bloody corpses start limping out of the walls to consume you. As you get more freaked out and closer to virtual death, the game gets harder and creepier. Only by gathering yourself and keeping your cool can you overcome the added dangers. That sounds pretty b’dass to me.
