It’s a Saturday morning. You’re making Silver Dollar Hots for the family. The doorbell rings. It’s the mailman. He’s brought a CubeGuard.
That’s right: on the traditional day before or the actual day of rest, the mailman is here to bring you something to remind you of work. But what a gadget it is! It’s basically one of those crowd control tapes with a spring loaded reel to wind it back up after use. However, this tape has a calming scene – a mountain range or a happy face – with a message (“Do not disturb” or, in my case, “John is blogging. Do not disturb.”
That’s right: it’s crowd control tape for your cubicle. Read on for more info and a giveaway.

Thanks for playing!
The CubeGuard has magnets on either side as well as high-test Velcro fasteners for folks without a metal door frame. The standard kit costs $19.99 for the standard kit and ten dollars more for a custom model.
Do they make sense? Sure. In a world full of distractions these things are kind of cute and a nice way to ensure that dude who no one likes at work who always asks what’s up after work and who always ends up finding out that you’re all going to Red Robin doesn’t poke his head around your cube door. Besides, we all need a little fun in our lives.
That said, CubeGuard is giving us 10 $19.99 coupons to give away. I’ll give them away to 10 commenters at random. Good luck and sorry to bring up work on a Saturday. I’ll close the contest at noon on Tuesday.

this does seem incredibly awesome… but i’m confused – can you change the message?
you can request a custom message and buy just the tape cartridges.
This would make a nice man cave accessory.
Nice. Better still would be one with a slight electrical charge for those real persistent intruders.
I don’t work on a cubicle, but i could use it at home. I don’t like to be disturbed when i’m surfing porn! ;)
Ah the agree on the man cave accessory. Quite true.
I feel as though this would actually cause more distraction as people ask, “where did you get that?”
Sure beats trying to figure out how to hang a shower curtain from a suspended ceiling!
That looks pretty awesome wonder if it would actually work or if the world would just ignore it…
Great idea! I always have to put up hand written notes that read, “Do not disturb.”
I’d like to test the kid karate chop factor on these.
Can I get an electrified version for those who can’t take a hint?
cool! and I’m actually in my cube right now :-)
The only thing on my mind today was ‘going to the beach’ …
but this thing seems so much more polite than a ‘do not disturb’ stapled to the wall. who wouldn’t want to leave me alone
I need one that’s the height of my cubicle, with the image of a steel door on it.
I get the feeling putting something like this up would only encourage others to bother me. I think I’d have to go for something surlier like: “Do not disturb, spiked death trap has been armed.”
“Hai, I am busy freelancing. Bai”
Woohoo! Finally a barrier for my cubicle!!! I would put up something like “Knock before you enter – I need time to close out the games”
Now I can keep the hoards away from my desk. Yay!
I’d like one that reads: “please do not disturb, busy ruining my career on another dot com startup.”
“Enter at own risk. Beware of frustrated introvert with pepper spray.”
“Do not disturb! The person at this desk is brainstorming with himself!”
Awesome. My door frames aren’t steel, but I can use the “high-tec” Velcro.
I can imagine people just running into it, not even realizing it’s there, and then being confused when they hear something hit the floor. Then, it’s like, “Whoo! I won a race!” to, somehow, give accomplishment to their mediocre lives.
As for my witty comment *on the CubeGuard… I don’t know. I’d have to think about it.
Gotta have one. It won’t help, but perhaps some poison darts might.
I am starting a new job next week and I’ll have my very first cubicle! I’m gonna need one of these. Hook me up please!
Ryan.. me too! I’m actually getting my first cubicle job! Movin’ on up for sure.
Hmm. So I guess police crime scene tape is now passe? Sigh. I did so like that stuff.
This would definitely be a cute/fun addition to our home office. (Something to keep the sister in law out!*) Thanks for passing this along and I hope we win a coupon!
*I kid, Amelia, I kid.
Ooh, I would love one of these! I’m always getting interrupted at work!
I’d definitely try one out. I want my to say something like, “Deadline Panic Inside – Come Back Later.”
Mine would probably read “Tom isn’t in the office right now, and please don’t call as he is trying his best to avoid working!”
Looks fun. I worked with someone that rigged up his dry erase board to hang in his cubicle door way so he could write on it, and a sign on the back that warned intruders to say clear.
Does it come with a bat or something to hit people that disobey the tape?
Cool, but I would need an open space version. Kit with 2 poles comming soon?
Are they also sending kits out of US? To Europe maybe?
I love the idea as some people will interupt me mid-bite of my lunch for an extensive work question even when I have my headphones on…
I don’t want to be rude; but would be tempted to personalize “Please Do Not Disturb” with “Yes, that even includes you” for the truly dense.
Cool idea, fun and useful !
I’ve been dying for something like this. The post-it notes and random threats haven’t been working. At least this has the possibility of stopping them before they enter my cube
I have one up. It works great! Took about 4 days for people to get used to it – but now nobody bothers me :).
I picked one up at Frys and love it! My boss likes it 2 because I am getting more work done!
I just went to cubeguard.com and the site is really cool! Whoever thought of this is a GENIUS! I can now remove my ugly shower curtain and post my messages in style! Thanks cubeguard!
I could totally use one of these for nap time
A buddy is the only long-term full-time employee at our company that does not have an office (he does have a nice skylight above his cubicle, though). This might help him think nice thoughts of his cubicle-sweet-cubicle.
I want “Baby is sleeping – shhhhhhhh”! I looked at the website and it shows they can also be used in front of doors for office or home.
Fail
Awesome, as the chance that I will get a locking door on my cube is just about nil this is definitely the next best thing.
Very nice thing there. I would love to use one of those to block everyone from entering my room/office.
I’ll take one :)
Too Cool! Sometimes we all need space to think!
this is a comment..
so many uses so little time
Does it help in the slightest?
No neither did my crime scene tape I used to use at work but it is funny
