maxed_out_265x400Speaking to OXM at E3 last week, SVP of EA Games Europe Patrick Soderlund, stated that the Xbox 360 has been “maxed out.” I’m not entirely sure what he means by that, but I’d assume he’s referring to what EA can do with the console’s hardware. On the flip side, Soderlund said that EA has yet to “max out” the PS3. He’s a bit of a waffler, though.

“I like the Natal,” he says. “That’s cool. It’s an interesting device, so I’m truly impressed by Xbox. It’s my personal favourite console… I think Microsoft is on a roll right now. They’re doing really well. If I was Sony, I would have a headache, to be honest.”

And then he sort of changes his mind.

“Sony has a lot of good games this year. If you go to their booth, there’s a very consistent, high quality product line-up and that will help them. I do think that we’ll see developers inside the organisation getting to understand the PS3 better and I think that we’re getting more power out of PS3 right now… I think that we’ve maxed out the 360 but we haven’t maxed out the PS3.”

  • I concur with the following “I think that we’ve maxed out the 360 but we haven’t maxed out the PS3.”

  • That’s understandable. With the PS2, which launched in 2000…it was said to have ‘maxed out’ with God of War which came out in 2005. If we’re to assume that a 5 year time frame is what it takes for developers to reach a console’s highest potential, then there may be quite a bit of truth to the above statements. It’s been about 4 and a half years since the Xbox 360 launched in late 2005, with the PS3 a year behind at only 3 and a half. And with both putting out the same quality games, the PS3 still has room to grow.

  • Well I like both of them just fine. Long as I can keep using PlayOn and Tversity to play my movies through them my evenings will keep rolling along. The PS3 is definitely a much better media play mainly because of the Blu-Ray although Xbox 360 does have nice integration with Netflix.

  • I am looking forward to get more games.
