i'm curious, how far exactly did you have to push in connector #3? this threw me off as well. i could not insert it far enough so that the entire gold contact was beneath the tab.

and that video was horrible. i can't believe it told you to pry the lcd screen off from the bottom. i went from an iphone 3g with a simple cracked glass issue to a completely damaged lcd now. all you really had to do was pry at the tabs on the SIDES of the lcd and it popped right out. really wish i had known this beforehand.

I tried this and unfortunately ended up worse than I started, too. The instructional video was pretty good but in practice there are lots of issues. Two examples are the very tiny screws (I ended up losing two), and I damaged the LCD screen despite being careful. The review, above, helped me know where to pry on the silver. I started out on the wrong spot too. Anyway, I’m glad I tried but from the mess I’ve got now it looks like I’ll just be springing for a new iPhone.

I don't have an iPhone, but--being interested in tech gear in general and LCD screens in particular--I read the review. And that's one EXCELLENT review!

I thoughtfully hung on every word and made all the same minor (but nearly deal-breaking) mistakes along with you, just as I know I would make them on my own if I actually needed to perform this particular transplant surgery.

However, if in possession of this great walk-thru, I think some of the usual frustration could be avoided, so I trust that others can benefit from your advice and experience, and also that tutorial makers can step it up a bit in terms of making the instructions more friendly. The main this is that I really appreciate your candidness.

By the way, you do of course realize that the phone owner will need to administer anti-rejection meds (available via the App-pharmacy, or generically from Walgreen's) in order to crank down that iPhone's immune system a bit to prevent it from rejecting the screen transplant.

Attempted this same repair, with more problems than I started with. Decided to replace the complete LCD/touch panel assembly unit, which is available on ebay for about $130. This repair is basically just a drop-in repair, taking about 20 minutes, and includes a new rubber gasket for a almost new iphone.
