This isn’t exactly shocking news, but here we go: The WWDC 2009 build of Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) has been leaked onto the Internet. I would imagine Apple doesn’t want you, Average Guy, to download it, but don’t expect me to try and stop you.
The build, 10a380, is 5.84GB in size, meaning you’d need a dual layer DVD burner to install. I’ve seen it on one “private” BitTorrent site as of this morning; I’m sure it’ll spread around the Internet in no time.
Oh, and that’s the new default desktop image.
Did I download it? No, largely because I’m not too keen on playing around with an unfinished operating system.
But be my guest if that’s your thing.
UPDATE For you skeptics, here’s a screenshot of the torrent. I refuse to name the site specifically because someone accused me of making all this up, as if developer builds don’t leak all the damn time. Also, the number you see, 598.86GB, is the total amount of data transferred on the torrent so far, not how big the torrent itself is.

OMFG.
Please at least give a hint where! I’ve been looking all morning and can’t find it!

Excellent joke… This is Leopard renamed as “snow leopard” :-((
Pirated software is illegal in some states. :)
That’s why there’s no direct link!
It’s a beta, seriously :p
I hate MSoft, but their public betas are great (in concept), Apple’s got a dumb private beta policy.
Besides, who wont buy 10.6 when it reaches retail?
For $29 smackeroos? Forgedaboudit. I’m getting the 5 user install version for $49 (or whatever the education price is, probably $47) so I can put it on my Macs at work too!
Shhhh…don’t tell IT. :-D
I would be mostly worried about the fact that many of the free versions in Torrents are going to be like Photoshop CS4 and iLife ‘09 – infested with Trojans.
Trojans designed for OS X are pathetic (damage wise) compared to Windows. They’re practically an afterthought, you wouldnt even notice anything wrong if you had the iWork trojan.
$29 is a great price as well!
yeah but in september.. and not now dude… and why 29 euros if software’s for free anyway?? like apple needs your mine our money? seriously you buy pay and you are happy then? f u dude
And secondly, since it’s on a private tracker, people would pounce on any malware bundled. :)
Don’t write de direct link but say the private Bittorrent website >.<
You did not download it because it isn’ there. I tried to find it, but (still) couldn’t find it anywhere. And if it was, you surely did but you only try to fool us and generate clicks on your page with that headline.
Really, smarty pants? Then where did the desktop background come from? Did I just *invent it*? Or did I take it from the torrent comments? You decide!
But that is adorable of you to think I give a toss about traffic. Regular readers know that I patently do not care.
Ok, but, where is it then? I’m sure i’m not alone with that wish for taste of 10.6. Would you mind being so nice and just give us a hint…?
Here is the wall (http://lmnt.me/066y).
Can you tell us on which torrent website we can find it?, I don’t think this information is illegal
Why does the torrent site screenshot show 598GB :O
With regards to the image: how many torrents are 598.86 GB in size??
That’s actually the total amount of data transferred on the torrent (between everyone sharing the files), not the size of the torrent itself.
I know which private tracker this is on. Let’s just say that it will leak to The Pirate Bay sooner than you’ll be able to get your hands on an invite, so don’t worry about it. :P
“you’d need a dual layer DVD burner to install”
You could restore the image with disk utility onto say, an external drive for example…
The external drive method is particularly useful. You don’t have to worry about losing discs, and the installation runs more quickly over USB.
Best idea: back up the OS X Restore discs that came with your computer onto partitions of an external drive. You’ll thank yourself when your system won’t boot, you can’t find your discs, and you have a 6PM deadline.
Or you could just create a new partition using DiskUtility to restore the image to and boot off that :P
The site is XXXX.cd
what?
:O
Just for curiosity, what’s the tracker?
I don’t want to post the full direction to respect the autor of this site.
Another hint:
http://www.W_ _ T.cd
ps: you gaved the word in your question also ;)
Thanks! I’ve got it.
May you invite me to this tracker please?
fernando.cam.valente@gmail.com
I may send you a De##noid invite.
I wish I had an account :(
i guess its what.cd. But am unable to find a way to log in. can somebody share the way to get in
Has anyone actually installed it? How is it running?
is it what.cd . is this is the site. kindly let us know the loggin infos
It is on the private tracket What.cd
No need to try to login becouse it is full.
Just wait for a Usenet upload or other bittorrent site (if you want slow download)
I’ll invite someone to Demon..id in exchange for a wh_ _ t.cd invite. :)
if someone will send me an invite i will send you an invite to leecherslair.com
burtonbalance(at)gmail.com
Wow. Seriously? Threats, over software that’ll be out in the blink of a digital eye, that isn’t even going to cost a full $30. That’s … really childish.
Trading a de_onoid invite for a w__t.cd invite is like trading a stale McDonalds Big Mac for a fresh juicy steak dinner haha
Yeah, i always see this everywhere. the de_monoid trade for like TL or TD.
Hey everyone, I’ll trade my Civic for your Ferrari!
protip: it’s on waffles too now
no dock expose from what i hear but everything else seems to be there
if this is build 10A380 after you install run software update and it will give you expose etc… But the update is like 600mb and it updates your build to 10A394
I could really use an invite to w***.cd if anyone has one. I won’t pretend that a demonoid would be worthy of the invite, but it’s all I have to trade. Thanks

incase people are still interested in joining the tracker
There IS a way to get an account: a) get an invite from someone with an existing account, or b) pass an interview. If you are going to attempt the latter, view: http://whatinterviewprep.webs.com/
@tad, @steve
It is now on Demonoid, for those with no patience, and a lack of concern for their own safety and well-being.
Thanks dude!
It’s also on TPB now folks.
Will download and give it a shot, pondering whether to replace my Leopard install with this one (seeing it’s the final beta that’ll be issued to devs)
Now you can find it in a “public” bittorrent website. Time to sail.
Yes that public site happen to Start with “The” and end with “Bay”.
I’ll be making the jump from Leopard today, have my backups and install hd ready, can’t wait (even if there’s no Dock Expose or Quick Time X in this one)
Its on mininova!
I’m using it and I’m enjoying it. It’s cool, the interface is a little different. It’s fast, stable enough to use as main operating system, but the programs freeze all the time.
Did you really just threaten to kill me?
you know the famous if clause do you?
i mean you could push it a little and tell me where you live ;)
ok i guess “asshole” really seems aggressive :/
sry for that…
You need to chill. That’s really inappropriate.
i’m using it atm, and it doesn’t feel that different, because as it was said here earlier all the fancy visual things are missing in this build. and i thought if they rewrite the finder, they could also get rid of this mobileme sync annoyance.. but i’m optimistic that not all improvements are implented yet.
but e.g. safari is really flying (i opened gmail in 0.1 sec within the browser) and yes, the finder is in general much smoother and snappier than before..
but i’d recommend to wait till september though
Mobileme not syncing either for me is this what you found too?
