No, but they'll nickel-and-dime you for every other service; including warranty repairs on the XM hardware. You'll find a $20 repair suddenly becomes a $200 repair. If you buy a new car/new radio, transferring fees will get you. Cancellation fees will get you. And be sure of it, anything else they can come up with.

The lifetime accounts are a bit of a scam unless you plan on sticking with the same (working) hardware forever...

Bash Sirius all you want. I am a listener for life. 2 reasons why.

1. They are the only media, with the exception of Showtime( I love Dexter), that is innovative and a LEADER!!! They take chances.

2. I bought 350,000 shares at 7 cents and sold at 43 cents. You do the math.

They also increased the extra receiver fee. I rolled my subscription back to music only and will be dropping one receiver after they add this new fee on.

A few months ago I updated my Sirius XM account to lifetime. I wonder if they will try to screw me out of the monthly $1.98. If they do, I will dump my 39000 shares and dump the service.

Just another reason for me not to join. I was very close to coming onboard with this tech/service but to hear that I have to pay for the additional www stream and eat the price bumps from the music industry, nah no thanks.

At a time when everyone is looking at loosing a job or if they are luck ehh hmmm just take a pay cut nope not a wise move. Make some of the overly paid ehh hmmm talent take a pay cut.

At least brighthouse has the b@!!$ to stand up the the sponge bob mofia back in January.

This service is no longer on my wish list. Hopefully my wife reads this blog and will know not to get me the personal/portable sirius player.

Spot on Jerry -- I will also add that whenever you hear this on terrestrial radio or TV that there will probably either be merely a slight mention or no mention at all of WHY these rates are going up! Blame it on the music industry people, not Sirius XM! Keep in mind that this is a company that has yet to be profitable, and now they're getting this extra charge shoved down their throats.

Personally, I would sooner give up my cable TV than my satellite radio.

The people complaining are just never going to be happy but funny you only hear the complaining in the news and bashing stories when it has to do with Sirrius XM. They are passing on an added cost that is being pushed on them imagine that,SO IS EVERY OTHER COMPANY OUT THERE but you don't read every day about them just when sirrius is involved and some writers basher(probably supported by NAB) finds another chance to bad mouth Sirrius xm. Funny the cable company increases rates by about $2 every year like clockwork ever since the gov't deregulated them but you don't read about them evry day in the news stories. HMMMM.... wonder why maybe cause they are well established so bashing them will do no good. Costs can only be absorbed to an extent and then every business eventually passes them on to the consumer you just don't read about them all in the world news.

Comments above me are... interesting, to say the least.

First off, it's $24/year extra. If you really enjoy the service, you're probably not going to give it up for the price of a few coffees.

Secondly, if they thought adding $2 to the subscription fees was going to bankrupt them, they wouldn't have done it. These aren't thoughtless decisions, every choice like this in a large corporation is typically fairly well vetted before being publicly announced.

I used to pay for 2 subscriptions and opted out when they started charging for online listening. This additional $2 is just more icing on the cake for why I won't subscribe any longer. In light of the economy and unemployment rates at a 28 year high satellite radio is a luxury now were near a necessity. Sirius/XM needs to wake up before they are forced to liquidate.... or ask for a Gov't bail out.

As time moves on there are hardly any services that get cheaper. At least they have an excuse for the price increase (unlike other services that just nickle and dime you with charges).

When I bought my new volkswagen it came with 6 months of Sirius. I like it a lot more than regular radio and have since paid for another year. Another 1.98 won't keep me from stopping it...2.00 would, but not 1.98.
