Ooh la la, here’s video of the Archos 9, straight from a recent Archos event in Paris. The quick and dirty: about three hours battery life, Windows 7, 8.9-inch 1024×600 touchscreen, 80GB hard drive, 1.2 GHz Atom CPU, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, kickstand, onscreen keyboard, and SIM card slot for HSDPA.

Charbax from ArchosFans.com speculates that it’ll cost under $500 here in the US when it launches in the fall. The European launch price is apparently 450 Euro ($632), but US consumers generally pay less since there’s no VAT here.

  • That battery life leaves something to be desired. and on Archos’ website they say.

“The ARCHOS 9 provides all the power and comfort needed for daily usage. ”

3 hours doesn’t sound like a day to me.

I would hope 5-6 with wifi on… I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

    • Archos is a french company. Most people in France work for the government and are on holiday half the year. I am pretty sure that when not on holiday, 3hrs is a full day of work in France. Don’t worry though, the way things are going the US will be the same way soon. Yes we can!

      • France has the best health care system in the world and most folks work 4 days a week. You think we’re better cause we have terrible health care and work more hours? What a dummy. You’ve been brainwashed good by your corporate masters! LOL!

  • Uh, wrong, Archos confirmed it’ll cost 700$ in the U.S. http://www.umpcportal.com/2009/06/archos-launch-9%E2%80%9D-windows-7-tablet-umpc 500$ Euro = 700$ USD

  • Why do they not include a vid camera for Skype meetings on the road?

  • What is with the fetish manufacturers have these days with screens that are fifty feet wide but only two inches tall?

    Srsly, annoying.

  • My question is why so much? This runs Win7. Why not buy the Archos10 netbook for around $250 and you get more HDD, more CPU, bigger screen… for half as much… oh, you lose bluetooth.

Is a dedicated PMP that much better than a netbook? I ask because I want to get something small like that, but do I get a netbook or a PMP?

  • 3 hour battery life eh? Well I just lost all interest in this. IF they are claiming 3 hours in the ads, then it really gets 2.25 with wifi/3G on, and in 3 months you’ll be lucky to get 1.5hrs out of it. Use it for 15 minutes to check email, put it in standby, three hours later on the train you want to play Facebook or whatever and…..dead. Trust me on this one, small computers with sub-5hr batteries will really disappoint you as you realize that they are useless.

  • archos always lie about the battery life ..is just marketing…the archos 605wifi battery is a joke and the wifi dont work unless u pay for the plugin so i dont know why they say their product do something when in reality it doesnt …like for example the new archos 5 and 7 states the resolution is 800×480 but videos have to be converted to a maximum dvd quality 720×480 and im not talking about the HD 720 hdmi output wont work at hd quality unless you buy the plugin so i hope the archos 9 does what is supposed to do without finding out after you buy it you have to buy a plug in to download to the harddrive for example or get and send e mail …thats another lie that the archos 5 and 7 forgot to tell you…. need a plugin for email …but ipod touch can send e mail and edit profiles right on the device…another thing it bothers me is the speed of 1.3mhz why they didnt use the new atom n280 of 1.66mhz that asus is using on their new 1008ha? $415 at b&h

    • WAIT UP~!!! is this really true? if it is true that this device requires plug-ins to do many things such as e-mail, I am totally breaking up with this product. I dont think it’s true, but can it be????

  • neptuneg23 I feel your pain…yes we can

  • I was excited about archos 9, just like a guy with whom you thought would be good, he lets you down….That how I feel about the archo 9 when I read about the three (3) hours of battery life…my goodness, that is very poor in today’s market…I wish them all the luck in the world, not with my money. I am going to speculate that the price will go down pretty fast….for you archos lovers …wait…wait..

  • i’m not sure why it’s so hard for manufacturers to understand this. I want 6+ hours of battery life with WIFI on, a 720p screen, and the ability to stream 720p video. That for me is the definition of a mobile pc. For that, I’d spend $700. Without that, I’ll just get a netbook for $300.

  • Man. You guys are bringing me down.

Unfortunately I can’t wait. I’ve been using a Motion M1300 tablet PC since they first came out. I got #13 the batch, hehe, and had it preordered for months before it released.

But its dying. Wireless died. Wont charge the battery. So when this thing comes out I need to get it.

As long as I can run Microsoft OneNote, I will be good to go.

  • All I’m saying, perfect to mount to the dash of my car and use as an awesome car media center.
