Yup, Doom runs fine on the Palm Pre

If you were wondering the age ol’ question of “Will it run Doom?” about the Palm Pre, the answer is yes. We’re kind of thinking though that more would be surprised if the Pre wouldn’t run Doom. But anyway, one dude took it upon himself to reprogram an open-source version of the game to use WebOS’s DirectFB graphics library. So what we have here is a hardware-accelerated version of the classic FPS. Well done.

  • You could actually play it if you had hands the size of a doll’s perhaps, but otherwise that looks ridiculous.

    • The only thing ridiculous here was that comment. You miss the point of that article Fanboy. Stop hating and get yourself a Pre.

      • I’m sorry, please show me the real purpose of the article. To prove that the Pre can at least play Doom? Hacked iPods from 2005 could run Doom flawlessly, if the Pre couldn’t it would be a joke. So I simply interpret the article and comment on the jokingly small buttons that you would have to use. Perhaps Palm hadn’t exactly intended for the Pre to be a heavy gaming device, but if you would have fun playing it, be my guest.

  • I’m with dwalk, I will most likely get a Pre, and I love Doom, but that just looks silly.

    • Thats what on screen buttons and wide screen view are for, this is just a first itteration, a final product wouldnt use those buttons for fast action packed gaming but would do as the iphone does with on screen controls and accelerometer input
