Start up the rumor engine, ladies and gentlemen. 1UP.com is reporting that Microsoft’s Project Natal may actually be shipping integrated into a new console next fall. From the sounds of it, though, the console won’t be new as in different but new as in improved slightly. That is, new games would apparently work on both the current Xbox 360 console and “Xbox Natal” as it’s being unofficially called.
“Yes, there will be a new Xbox console next fall.
However, the new console won’t just be an Xbox 360 with a camera, though — we’ve heard it will be considered a new platform and carry a new name (Xbox Natal?). It’s not clear what sort of upgrades we might see, but some have suggested it will be an slight upgrade of the current Xbox 360 technology. Current Xbox 360 games would be playable on it, but future games would be able to take advantage of the added muscle. Similar to what we see in the PC space, games played on the more advanced Xbox would look or perform better, but publishers will still be able to support owners of both systems.”
That seems like kind of a slippery slope for Microsoft but I suppose if you’re going to integrate something directly into a console, you might as well bump the console’s specs a bit while you’re at it to help potential customers justify such a purchase. Let’s not forget that Natal will be sold separately for those of us who don’t want to buy an all-new Xbox 360.

What will the neat freaks who hide their consoles do?
Doug Aamoth: Your presence is requested at Wiimbledon, Saturday, June 27. See you there!
Thing is that PS3 upgrades their console all the time – and makes it INCOMPATIBLE with older versions, so I don’t think Xbox360 has that much to worry about with this tactic.
natal means christmas in portugese… so maybe
I need some help deciding what to do here then. i was just about to go get a new Xbox 360 in hopes it wont have the ring problems like mine does now (do the new ones have problems still by the way). So do they mean fall of 09 or 2010 and should i just wait to get this “new” xbox or should i go get one thats out today?
Thanks for the help.
hi there if you do not have a x-box 360 i would diffently wait becuase the next x-box 360 wont even be in the same class a 6 core cpu not 3 core core 32 mb gpu not 10 mb gpu 1 gb of ddr5 not 512 mb ddr3 and the best feature i like is the 32 gb solid state drive or ssd wich will blow the original x-box 360 hard drive right out of the water the curent x-box hard drive takes a long time too load games or too load levels of a game be whole lot faster with the 32 gb ssd i also buy me a macbook pro with a 256 gb ssd
I was at Radio Shack a couple of days ago, I bought a product and as I did I asked about the Xbox 360 arcade price, and they told me its sold out. They said their getting new xbox consoles with increased specs. They said the elite and pro is going to go up in memory and the arcade is going to have 12 arcade games instead of 5 and 1gb memory installed in it. Since this came from the employees that work there, I’m going to wait until it comes out since my Xbox recently broke =(. And its going to be same price or higher, and they said its supposed to launch in the 2nd week of September of this year!
