But what I'd like to see is a unit which has sixteen 1/4" ins, and a USB out, with 16 SD internal, and only two buttons REC & STOP. 48k/24 bit converters mandatory. A unit such as this could ultimately be implemented in direct board archiving. 16x4gig SD's could archive an entire evening. Perfect sync start would make track file transfers to any DAW easy enough for even me to do, and make a fantastic final mix. And all this simplicity could be contained in a 1RU space, with front panel SD slots. Input levels +4 preset, no adjustments needed. And it could be out, at under $900.
