Bad news for German gamers. (As I understand it, we’re huge in Baden-Baden.) A bill is about to be introduced to parliament, after having been rubber-stamped by all sixteen of the country’s interior ministers, that would ban the sale of all violent video games. What’s a violent video game? Any game “where the main part is to realistically play the killing of people or other cruel or unhuman acts of violence against humans or manlike characters.” Yikes.
And not only would the law ban the sale of violent video games there, it would also ban the development of violent video games there. Did you know that Crysis was developed by a German company, Crytek? Yikes.
This could all go down before federal elections in September. Yikes.
Now, why is this happening? Remember the school shooting from March of this year? It turns out that the kid was a big Counter-Strike fan. So, it stands to reason that violent video games will bring about the destruction of Western Civilization. Yikes.
Never mind that plenty of people enjoy these games without ever having a problem.
Yikes!

How about books and movies while they’re at it?
I’d always had Germany down as country that generally gets things right (probably something to do with the efficiency stereotype). How wrong was I ?!?!
Lets hope their parliament sees how ridiculous the idea that is being introduced to them really is.
sounds like a huge import market for GTA V will be emerging.
I hope this bill doesn’t go through as it is in complete disregard of the German people’s rights.
agreed.. people that want to ban these kinda stuff deserve to get killed horribly…
i suggest that gamers unite, and show them that they where right…
baah there really pissing me off…
My friend’s quote: “I know why the Germans want to ban all violent video games. Because in all the violent video games, you kill Germans!”
Never forget. Always remember.

(Pissed-off German kid plays Unreal T.)
WTF, Germany?
Is being addicted to video games worst than being addicted to drugs or to alcohol which Germany is famous of? I’d rather be addicted to games than to drugs or alcohol and most parents would agree to that. I’ve also read an article: http://www.goarticles.com/cgi-bin/showa.cgi?C=1421576 which pointed a good effect of games in real world specially in times of crisis.
In Germany “political correctness” is king. Last year, left wing rioters beat up Jews in the German city of Cologne, and German police… watched and did nothing.
There was a time when people in my country where looking up to Germany as the “big brother”, to figure out “How to do it”. Today? We’re laughing at how stupid the Germans are. Their government does with them whatever it wants.
German media has been on a crusade against “killer games” as they’re usually called. Some major TV stations even claimed that raping women is a mission objective in the GTA games. They have, on purpose, re-cut footage and presented players of FPS in a way that they’re all Nazis.
In Germany freedom and democracy are dead. Fascism is back. Just this time it’s painted red and green instead of brown.
