A reader, one Mr. Dude dropped this into comments last night and we’re about to try it. Presumably you have to enable tethering and MMS before you begin.
UPDATE – Just go here with your iPhone browser. This enables tethering but we’re still trying to figure out MMS.
u can enable ur MMS settings… just do this….
-take sim out of iphone
-place into old ATT phone w/ MMS capabilities
-make a call or send a message
-check ATT site and see if phone changed
-go to https://mymedianet.wireless.att.com/
-with sim still in decoy phone register number on the website
-enter 4 digit passcode in decoy phone
-take sim out and put back into iphone
VIOLA~~~~~~~
Clearly what he lacks in capitalization skills he makes up for in tilde usage and it seems like it could work. I can’t find an AT&T phone with MMS in my mess here but can someone give this a whirl?

I can try it out today I think, not positive, but hopeful.
I would try this if at&t even had 3G an Edge up and running in half the country. Check your @replies on twitter and search AT&T 3G on search.twitter.com. =P
Viola -
worked? or are you just commenting on the malapropism?
That’s not a malapropism, it’s a french word that expresses satisfaction with something pleasing happening as if by magic.
“Viola” is a French word, yes. It means “[s/he] raped”.
What you’re looking for is another French word: “voilà”, which does express satisfaction and so on.
Tethering works on the with the original file pushing Restore, but then visual voicemail goes down that can be changed. The site that you sent with the iPhone the MMS gets “Enabled” You can see the MMS in your text message but a “Red” Exclamation point appears. So it seems we can have tethering but MMS might be harder to set up.
didn’t work – it sent me the code – I restarted with sim in iphone and nothing…
or just visit help.BenM.at/help.php from Safari on your iPhone…
Wow. That was easy. Too bad this site doesn’t enable MMS.
Well I tried the MMS. Didn’t work after restart. Oh well. Have not tried tethering yet, that looks promising though.
This is the method I used to get the ‘basic’ data plan when AT&T insisted that I could not have it because my Samsung SGH-G800 was a “PDA phone.”
This actually works with any feature that requires a specific phone.
All you have to do is swap your SIM into a phone that supports that plan feature, update your plan on the ATT Wireless website, then swap the SIM back into your own phone.
i tried it too but didn’t work .someone has more solutions ?
Tethering works!!
I am no computer guru by ANY means it was so simple. Now the MMS, I have absolutely NO idea WHAT to do with the codes it gives to set it up. I rebooted the phone and expected to be able to find it in settings or in messages or on the springboard. Completely at a loss on this one. Any ideas?
Where it’s not working, same thing I’m encouraging everyone, everywhere. Let’s start using 611 and calling ATT. Take 5 minutes, pick up the phone once or twice a day, and call them, ask to be provisioned, and leave a complaint. Be polite – obviously it’s not the reps fault, but until we start getting enough calls in there, they’re not gonna listen. If we can start generating a significant number of complaint calls every day though, they are going to start to listen to us.
It worked for me. iPhone 3G S 32Gig
I should have specified – MMS works!
How did you get MMS to work? I got tethering to work but not MMS?
Hey,
I got tethering to work (piece of cake!) however, I can’t figure out how to set up MMS. I see the proxy code, but where do you enter it?
Thanks!
Tethering worked without an issue, just need iTunes installed for the network adapter drivers to list. iPhone 3G 16GB, AT&T.
Didn’t try MMS because: Don’t use/need it, plan won’t cover it so I’ll probably be charged an arm and a leg…
i had mms working on my iphone 3g (send and receive) now its gone… :(
I can tether via Bluetooth to my HP or IBM laptop – no problem.
I tried MMS tonight. Was successful in sending photos, but I can’t receive them from other phones.
It’s a great feature, it’s part of the plan I’m paying for on three phones, why AT&T decided it should be different for iPhone users is beyond me.
You can try the SIM card swap all you want. As soon as your iPhone registers with the network again, they’ll figure out that you’re no longer using something else. Their system isn’t dumb.
If you do enable tethering, don’t d/l torrents through your phone. This will raise a red flag because of excessive data usage.

MMS… Where do you enter the MMS data given on “http://help.benm.at/help.php” ????
MMS… Where do you enter the MMS data given on “http://help.benm.at/help.php” ????
I’d love to know as well. My phone does not have “Cellular Data Network’ under Network Settings. Running OS3.0. What gives?
Hey guys, my mms is up and running, try taking out the sim card and not turn off the iPhone and then put it into the other phone, register on My MEdia Net, then put the sim in the iPhone.
Worked for me.
Also check your Carrier settings
Settings=>General=>Network=>Cellular Data Network
Under MMS make sure it is:
APN:
wap.cingular
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password:
CINGULAR1
MMSC:
mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy:
66.209.11.32

Here is proof
Hi
I’ve got the MMS setting in at
Settings=>General=>Network=>Cellular Data Network
under MMS for my service provider.
I used help.benm.at/help.php to install the mobileconfig and I have Internet Tethering working as well.
But the problem is, I can’t see the camera icon next to the text field in Messages. Is there anything else I can to enable MMS in messages rather insert the SIM in another phone and activate MMS first?
Why I ask that is because my service provider has no limitation as to what phone I use to MMS meaning my SIM is already capable of sending MMS and is not locked to any cell phone.
I have tried to reboot my iPhone several times after installing the mobileconfig, but MMS is still not ‘enabled’.
:(
Please help!
ZSK
this is fake he’s using a iphone 2g. if you look up at the corner it says e instead of 3g. you fail!
I’ve had it operational for a short period of time. I have entered the data as you’ve written it, however it does not seem as though I can receive MMS back. Sending is okay.
One thing that I DO need to do is un-jail break my phone. I’ve got Cydia and ICY running and the phone is SUPER slow. Since this (we’ll call it a “hack”) doesn’t require re-writing the firmware, I do not see having any problems.
I’ll have to try it when I have a little more time. Right now I have to get back to the garage and finish staining my cabinet doors.
Thanks!

I got tethering to work… here is my issue..
You say go to:
Settings–>General–>Network–>Cellular Data network
the only problem is, I don’t see “Cellular Data Network” when i click on network…
my only options are, “Enable 3G” “Data Roaming” “Internet Tethering” “VPN” and “Wi-Fi” but nothing else… am I doing something wrong!? I appreciate any help!
You have to update carrier settings with a new .ipcc and that will give you the feature of cellular data network and enable mms then you can enable it by doing the switch phone
do you know were I might be able to find this file? Any help is appreciated.
umm its all over the internet but i got mine from a torrent cause the internet ones wouldn`t work but just check google with mms on iphone 3G or 3GS and you should be able to find directions for it
just know that a lot of people are having trouble getting it to work and some are saying you need a family messaging plan for it to work right but i don`t think thats true but make sure when you do the sim card switch its with a 3G phone
Just wanted to let you all know that with AT&T the iphone text plan does NOT support MMS so that is probably why you are not receiving them back if you are able to send them. AT&T network actually does not recognize them.
The fact that we have to jump through all these hoops just to send and receive MMS messages makes me sick. My 20$ Nokia can do this… and my 700$ iphone cant..?
This thing about AT&T bringing MMS to the i Phone is good news but only to G3S users. Sept. the 25th? Yeah right; I kind of doubt it. Oh, and even if it comes on that date, will it work? would there be an extra charge for the new data line? Will AT&T over charge there customers like it does with its text messaging? (There sure wouldn’t be any surprises there) What about the users who have the 1st or 2nd i Phone; are they going to make them go out and buy new phones? forget that; if you want to send MMS from your i phone for free to anyone, right now! Go to MMS.ifind2.com and down load the sender today and forget about waiting on Apple & AT&T. Just check out the video on the link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AygkZYjjNY
<> That’s NOT a REAL MMS technique and it takes, what, 30 key cliks.. No thanks.. People still haven’t given us poor devils a detailed explanation of how to get ‘CELLULAR NETWORK’ to appear in the GENERAL SETTTINGS window. Like others my 3GS doesn’t have that page. Tethering working great – of course – can’t live without it. AND it works if you update to iPhone 3.1 too. So don’t worry about losing your tethering if you upgrade. But I want MMS — so can someone please give us an address for this .ipcc file we need?
sinister1 – it WON’T only be for 3Gs users, it will be for 3G users as well, but not for the original iPhone. Also, they announced it would come at no extra charge. Quit peddling your crap and go find some actual facts. READING helps.
Ha ha ha :) You guys make me laugh, honestly the reality is that some people have actually already been able to use MMS on the i Phone with the Sept. 25th deadline coming up but get this, they are only activating one number at a time! Can you believe that; are they retarded? there are like 5 million freakin i Phone users in the world! And the kicker is that AT&T has admitted that there will be bugs and glitches since there network wasn’t built to handle MMS. I tell you what, I downloaded Send MMS and View MMS from ifind2.com months ago and my life has been much easier. I even downloaded tethering recently so now I can use my phone as a modem as well. Do your self a favor and at least try it out. http://MMS.ifind2.com
Here’s the website that gives you a link to the .ipcc file and instructions to get your General Settings window to show: CELLULAR NETWORK DATA. You must reboot your iPhone 3G or 3Gs before you see the camera icon in the bottom of the window.. BUT, BUT — I just get a red exclamation points when I try to send and it says — can’t send message try later. I have Family Talk and Family unlimited messaging which SHOULD prevent me from needing to do the swap phone thing. What could be up?
Uggh.. But the day after you do the swap the SIM card trick — you get the red exclamation points back and no MMS… So as soon as they scan your phone at the website again — it resets the SIM. They have us locked down guys.. They know where we are and what we’re trying to do. Otherwise what would account for it working for a whole day — and then not — the day after… They’re NOT wanting us to have it until the fall…

P.S. Nick, actually it’s not my app and I don’t make any money off of it i’m just sharing because I know it works. To tell you the truth I bought like 5 or 6 different apps from I tunes and they were all crap.
To everyone who is getting the red exclamation mark when trying to send a mms message, i think i found a fix and its simply. On your iphone, go to settings, then click General, and at the bottom click Reset and finally click reset all settings. Should work
