You’d usually find the best vending machines in Japan… until now! There are plans to introduce vending machines in Germany that sell gold. That’s right: 100 percent pure gold.

There’s already a prototype machine at the Frankfurt airport. Prices are updated every few minutes, and there’s a 30 percent markup over the regular market price.

How much? You can buy 1g for €30, and 10g for €245.

As you might imagine, you can blame the economic crisis for all of this. As those commercials on TV say, there’s nothing quite like owning gold.

  • 30%?! I can’t even begin to imagine what would have to happen to the economy for that 30% to be made up on the investment. I have heard of some predatory investment deals before, but that has to take the cake.

  • A gold machine sounds like a robber’s dream, but CEO Geissler said they will have “no chance.” He contracted a company that produces armored cars to burglarproof the gold dispensers by testing the prototypes with dynamite.
