Even though summer has been effectively cancelled for certain areas of the country, it doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy an all-American barbecue. You’ll just have to cook everything on the stove and eat inside. Just like summer, except more like winter!
For those of you who may get to experience summer, here’s a simple solution to the complex problem of how in the hell to hold your food plate and your beer while keeping a hand free to eat, smoke, play volleyball, and/or gladhand some of your more attractive and well-to-do guests.
Called the “Go Plate,” it’s little more than a reusible, dishwasher-safe plastic plate with a center section that allows it to sit atop a bottle, can, or plastic cup. Available from KegWorks for $48.50 in stacks of 42 each — what an odd grouping — you may be able to find them elsewhere in smaller quantities, just in case you don’t need a small army’s-worth of plasticware.

Great idea, as long as he doesn’t distractedly tip the “whole enchilada” to take a swig – instant “Meal In A Lap!” I always liked the plates with a little notch for stems of wine glasses at stand-up appetizer events – how are you supposed to hold a plate and a glass and eat too? Or is it just a sneaky way to minimize snack consumption at these events by NOT providing them?
I used one of these at a party last. Really cool idea, easy to use. The popped them in the dishwasher after we were done. The price isn’t bad at all considering you can reuse them. I gotta order some of these.
Product faults:
* Can’t use the beverage while it’s in the plate because food will fall in your lap/on the ground.
* Can’t use the plate while it’s got the beverage in it because most food is not a liquid and will cause it to tip.
* Removing the bottle requires two hands anyways so why not just use a paper plate and a bottle.
* Increases the cumbersome nature of picnic food rather than decreases it thereby resulting in a net loss of productivity and as such a waste of money.
In short, fail.
We’ve been doing this sort of thing for years at our trailer park – only difference is we just cut a hole in the middle of our plastic plates.
