You! You’re the winner! Because you can buy a terabyte hard drive for less than a bill these days, and that means no matter which one you choose, you can put a thousand gigabytes of data on it. But for those of you more interested in things like price vs. performance, power consumption, and so on, it may be worthwhile to check out this really solid roundup by the detail-oriented guys over at Hardware Secrets.
You can start at the beginning and read their investigation in full, but that would be almost as much work as performing the tests. You can also skip to the end, but you’d miss out on some of the colorful and revealing charts like that one up there.
Even that’s too much trouble? Naughty reader, you want me to tell you now? Okay. You want to go with the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12. It’s got a good price ($90), great performance, and you know they’re going to be good for a while because Seagate will be checking their drives extra close after that little dust-up in January.

Good comparison David! I always thought that Western Digital performs better/faster than Seagate but you proved me wrong. But I still think that WD customer support is far more better than that of Seagate!
Not really worried about customor support, but Ive always been a WD user.
