I’m not going to send you to this site but if you need previous versions of the iPod firmware, it’s all right there for free. There might even be current versions. Just saying.
I’m also not going to tell you to shift-click (PC) or option-click (Mac) in iTunes when you click Update or Restore and select the ipsw file you’ll download. I also won’t encourage you to wait a little while and then smile like the cat with the canary.

I always wondered how many people who get all mad about the $10 bucks for an upgrade realized that you can’t really hide a firmware file for long….
It’s not a good idea to promote licensing and copyright violations… the new OS is copyrighted and users should pay for it!
Anyone who complains about $10 is over-reacting, especially when they probably own thousand+ in computer equipment!
Hmmm…..I’m not saying I tried this…..and that it didn’t seem to work…but would there be any issues one would encounter? That is if anyone tried it.
Welcome to pirateCrunch, the new home for warez…
Please, explain why it’s a good idea to pay instead of promoting illegal download.
Please, start a petition so Apple doesn’t charge us for the download instead of promoting illegal download.
If we want more legal, noDRM content on the internet, but we must show that we are responsible and honest first. That kind of post add to the RIAA arguments.
If you think 10$ is to expensive. Write to Apple saying so. Then live with the old version on your ipod. It was working before and still work after. when you won’t be able to bear to “Not Have” the latest coolest options, pay.
I paid my 10$. I know how much work there is behind an update.
$10 just lost Apple all of my future business. I only had the iPod touch 2G 7 months. Is it unreasonable that they would support it for at least the first full year? They say screw me? I say screw them!
recession.
how is your YouTube app. working?
…not so good.
To be honest having to *pay* to *unlock* features that are already on the hardware you’ve purchased (I’m looking at you bluetooth stereo) is pretty painful and since you’ve invested in the device, you shouldn’t have to pay for this…
I’m a touch owner and have paid for the 3.0 but really feel for iPhone owners who had to pay for MMS and Copy and Paste functionality – that really sucks Apple…
>>but really feel for iPhone owners who had to pay >>for MMS and Copy and Paste functionality – that >>really sucks Apple…
iPhone owners are eligible for the update/upgrade for FREE, due to the way the accounting is handled for the iPhone (as opposed to the Touch)
If you’re not going to send me to this site and help me upgrade to 3.0 without paying $10 then I won’t say “thanks for the tip.”
so is the ipsw from the site is working ?
yeah, im with the same issue
guys is the update working without problems?
Well, it doesnt work… I tried to update my Ipod touch 2g but i got an error when verifying the install so back to recovery mode lol
Already bought mine for 10 bucks. It’s a small price to pay for the beauty of the update.
Worked just fine for me.
Anyone know where I can buy an iTunes redeem code? Apple doesn’t want my money because my country is not on their list.
Unfortunately, some of us are forced to violate copyrights.
i tried to purchase the update but itunes stole my $12.99 and didnt give me the update. does this work? because technically ive payed for it and i didnt receive what i rightfully payed for.
Is it possible to say dos the update with an i tunes card?
I just purchased a brand new ipod touch today and paid for the update (only $4.99 with iTunes now), but all i get are repeated errors trying to download and install. Won’t even download… just get error after error after error. Kind of ticks me off a bit since these devices aren’t exactly cheap. $5 for an update isn’t bad, but I paid for the update and would like to actually get what I paid for.
