Well, isn’t this a kick in the pants? If you’re wearing mine it is. Just last week I had Verizon’s FiOS installed in my new apartment and today they announce new offers for customers and upgraded speeds. In short, I’m pissed. Turns out that I got a better deal and rate when I signed up two weeks ago. Hooray!
The entry-level tier for Internet service was 10Mbps down and 2Mbps up and now it’s 15/5Mbps. The 20/5Mbps (what I have) has now been bumped up to 25/15Mbps. In NYC and LI, the entry-level service starts at 25/15 and the mid-tier speeds have bumped up to 35/20.
Running through August 15th, new customers who order the Triple Play bundle from Verizon will get vouchers for a free Compaq netbook (10.1-inch) or Flip Ultra.
New customers who sign up for a triple bundle that consists of FiOS Internet with a connection speed of 25/15 Mbps or higher, FiOS TV Extreme HD service and FiOS Essentials voice service will receive their choice of a free Compaq Mini netbook* valued at $299.99 (customer only pays shipping, handling and taxes) or a free Flip Ultra camcorder, valued at $149.99.
New customers who order a triple bundle that consists of FiOS Internet with a connection speed of 15/5 Mbps or higher, FiOS TV Essentials service and Freedom Essentials voice service will receive a free Flip Ultra camcorder, or they can opt to purchase a Compaq Mini netbook* for just $99.99.
I have the three tier program with Verizon and the Family Phone Plan. When my comtract is up in Oct. of this year Verizon better have a new deal that I cannot refuse.There are too many deals out there for me to take what i have now. P.S. I also have Broadband ATand T has offered me over $700.00 Plus phones to convert. Verizon will have to beat that by a bunch.

I love my Fios. In fact…My fiance and I have been looking to move, and my number 1 requirement is that the neighborhood has Fios.
Hey Peter, isn’t there are 30 day window to cancel the service with no repercussion? You should just cancel now and reorder. It’s kind of an a-hole thing to do but hey…. Or you could call them and tell them that is what you intend to do and see if they’ll give you the goods.

Pissed? Try this on for size: it took me more than a week of calling and being disconnected mid-call, and talking to four different people before I was finally connected to someone who could actually sell me FiOS. I was told that I had 90 days to decide if I liked it, and that there was no early termination fee if I canceled with those 90 days.
Installation took me several more days to arrange, because every date they e-mailed me with were not the one I had told them was the only date I was available to be home. The repeatedly “confirmed” the incorrect dates. I had to go back through customer “service” several more times before I was finally transferred to a FiOS engineer who was able to correct their system.
Customer service at Verizon is a joke. Their monthly bill questions hotline does not take you to FiOS, but to Verizon. What’s the difference? They don’t know either.
Well within the 90 days, I was convinced I’d made a big mistake. The picture quality was abominable compared to my fiber-optic equipped cable provider, the set-top boxes were incredibly antiquated and had to be replaced twice. On day 89 of service, I called to cancel. I was told I’d be hit with a $150 early cancellation fee. When I questioned this, I was told it HAD been a policy, but they’d stopped abiding by it two months before my service started!
Took me an additional four days to actually have my service canceled.
That sucks, MrSatyre. I ordered online and they came by a week later to install. I had originally ordered TWC and their time frame for install was the same as Verizon.
I have TWC, who when I got the connection, advertised their service as 10Mbps down and 1MBps up, although soon after that, they upgraded to 15 down and 1 up, and it reflected in my connection automatically, without me getting pissed about it or bitching and moaning about it to TWC. I think you just need to be patient.
FiOS is the best service available. LOVE it!
