So how’s the Sirius XM iPhone app treating you? I hear good things! (Remember: I don’t have an iPhone, and I never will.) But here’s something that probably should be brought up: the lack of Howard Stern. He’s not my cup of tea, and my loyalties lie elsewhere, as you know, but to deny his show’s importance to Sirius XM is silly. Anyway, Mr. Stern explained yesterday why his show is nowhere to be found on the iPhone app. Citing a “contractual rights thing,” Mr. Stern then said he hopes to be on the app “one day.” Hoo hoo.
And, really, who benefits by not having Stern on the app? Certainly not Sirius XM (even though the app has been downloaded like whoa without the show), which wouldn’t mind all those iPhone users out there buying a Sirius XM subscription. Same thing with Stern: you’d think that a radio broadcaster would want to reach as large an audience as possible—the iPhone helps there, right? Why wouldn’t you want to be a part of the future
(And what lazy reporter thought that naughty content would preclude Howard Stern from being included? Playboy Radio is on the app, as is The Virus, which includes Opie & Anthony and Ron & Fez, two shows that use naughty language and talk about “adult” things.)
In any event, there’s no time frame for when to expect Stern.
I wouldn’t worry about it.

Also this really is the best app ever, pocket tunes did let me stream The Virus but now its two clicks from my home screen and I get to hear the boys…

I’m a Howard Stern fan, and while I don’t hate O&A, it is suspicious how they managed to get booted off all the radio stations they were on…
You are right, it has nothing to do with Krock as a failing rock station, or that the stations they are on as a whole switched formats.

Sounds like Howard is trying to milk Sirius out of more cash. Seriously, when you pay for a subscription, the availability of programming should not be limited by the device you’re using. Sam, it appears that you are judging O&A pretty harshly when it is obvious that you are not a fan of that type of humor. When viewed from the perspective of a fan of cringe humor it quickly becomes apparent that these guys are top notch. Calling Opie and Anthony “cancerous turds” without devoting the time to ‘get’ their style of comedy is unfair.

XM just “broke” streaming of 202 for all cellphones as of June 19 except iPhone users.

He hasn’t been relevant in 10 years. Sirius can pay him as much as they want, and promote him all they want. It doesn’t make him any more relevant.

It’s almost like saying that O&A fans hate Gallegher (the guy that smashed watermelons on stage) and, therefore, must care about him. But no one gives a shit about Gallegher. Not because they don’t like him, but because he’s irrelevant. Just like Howard.

I listen to O&A every day, most days live but I have an audible subscription in case I miss the show.
They talk about Howard very infrequently and the few things they do say about him are rarely mean spirited.
I can’t speak to how much Howard talks since I don’t listen but I don’t really imagine that either of them spend all that much time talking about the other. At this point it doesn’t make sense too, they are coworkers, they are not direct competitors and have vastly different fan bases.
They are both good and unique shows, although I do get a chuckle that we all (myself included) spend this much time battling. It seems its the fans that really spend all the time shit talking.
And yet another day when the Virus talk about Howard….I thought they never mention him? It’s more than once a week at this point.

I used to listen to O&A all the time when they were on afternoons…but never followed them over XM. Haven’t heard them since I loaded the StarPlayr Mac application…and for some reason I can get them now on my Leopard OS…and yes, they are still funny and the show is good. I have no beef with them. But the fans….
It seems every O&A post I see starts with an O&A fan trashing howard, his show, even his wife catches shrapnel. And in return, the wars begin…maybe it’s just the sites I visit, but that seems to be the routine. O&A fans have a pure hatred about Howard. It’s odd to me….it’s like a yankees fan hating the Sox…but this is radio, not sports.
