The rumor mill is churning, churning. Not too much, though, because it only squirted out a little bit of Zune HD-related info: some leaked Microsoft documents say the OLED-screened, Tegra-powered, HD-outputting next-generation media player will be coming out on September 8th. They also say there will be 16GB and 32GB versions, which seems right. The question is, will it have the value to compete with the iPod Touch?

Steve: Hey Bill! Watch me pull some excitement out of this hat!
Bill: That trick never works.
Steve: This time for sure! Presto!

does anyone know how much the zune hd will cost?
nobody knows yet. I’m going to just guess: $200 for 16GB, $260 for 32GB. That’s my official guess.
On wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zune) it has a chart with information about all of the different zune devices and their features. It shows the zune HD on that chart with it’s price, showing a 16G for $199.99 and a 32G for $299.99. However, no citation is given and it is wikipedia but it seems like a decent guess to me.
The Zune interface is great and I’ve been considering an iPod Touch for a bit (as I don’t want an iPhone that is tied to AT&T). So I think the Zune HD may be the device for me. The one thing that gives me determent is Internet Explorer on the device. I understand that Microsoft needs to integrate its various products but IE just isn’t good enough…but I’d be open to the idea if they create a specialized version for the Zune that was speedy and standards-compliant.
