I’m not sure I think this is such a good idea, Sony. A PSP crossed with one of Sony-Ericsson’s phones probably wouldn’t enjoy hybrid vigor, seeing as neither device is exactly best in breed. I mean, they’re both fine for what they are, but let’s be honest: they’re generally overpriced and only sport the most basic features.

I’m afraid I don’t trust you guys to make a successful crossover device, although you’re welcome to try. Er…continue to try. Just remember what the N-Gage did to Nokia.

Seriously, a device like this (curiously described as a “cellphone/game gear hybrid”) would probably be as big a boondoggle as the N-Gage, though your UMD-less game distribution system would make things a little easier. But honestly, Sony, do us all a favor and just focus on making the next PSP or a killer phone. Money wasted on this project could go into loss-leader pricing for PS3s. I’m just saying!

  • Sony: Fuck that. Take my idea instead. Develop a sweet add-on controller for the iPhone and then start adding games into the app store. Boom. Done.

…although you might have to wait for Apple to boost the gpu as its probably not quite good enough.

  • They just made the PSPgo, why the hell would they come out with this? If they were planning to do this, they should have just held off on the GO and made it the phone.

  • While Nokia has created the N-Gage application, we did not see anything of this sort from Sony…This is the correct way to compete with Nokia..Go SONY go..There are millions of people awaiting your PSP phone..But just a request, Please don’t over-price it!

  • Sony has been over pricing everything this generation. They removed the psp’s umd drive and all of its moving parts and replaced it with much cheaper flash memory. The Result? An increase in price by about $80. I understand that new tech always costs more for the sake of being new, but this is ridic.

  • If that is how Sony PSP phone is going to look like i think it’s good. Sony usually make good music phone and camera. Why not gaming phone..Sony rule

  • Oh man, another N-Gage… How terrible…

  • I do agree with most opinion that Sony should just contrate in making the PSP a better if not the best handheld gaming device and forget trying that idea of turning the PSP into a game and phone hybrid gadget that could turn just into a dud.

  • Actually, I thought sea lover’s “butterfly” design looked pretty slick, apart from the typography.

  • Why not? This is just another useless gadget. I don’t think that it will be popular.
