The Mole, as Ars affectionately refers to its gaming industry insider, has once again struck with a ‘rumor’ detailing Microsoft and Sony’s plans for their respective consoles this year. In case you’re super busy this Monday morning, I’ll break it down for you real quick. Expect to see bigger hard drives in the Xbox 360 and a slimmed down version of the PS3.
Let’s get the Sony news out of the way first. Sony is looking to clear out remaining inventory on the 80GB PS3 in the next two months. They hope the 160GB model will also clear out just as fast to make room for the PS3 slim and a price drop.
Microsoft’s platform will see drastic lineup changes this year according to the Mole. The Pro model could disappear as early as July or sometime in August. The Elite system will drop down to Pro status with a price cut in early September. MS is expected to drop another holiday bundle in October, but no word on which games will be bundled with the system.
We’ll just have to wait and see.

According to current economic situation, price dropping looks like a marketing strategy. Maybe we can see it come to true very soon.

If they would package them with the spare that will ultimately be needed they could clear out inventory twice as fast.
last time i checked the president for ps3 was like they not droppin the price because you are paying for quality! Which i think is BS i know a few people who Ps3 broke on them! so the quality cant be to good! Untill the price drops to xbox current price ps3 can eat my balls! freakin greedy bastards! WE IN A RECESSION DOES PS3 KNow what the F@#K that mean?
Sony do need to drop the price, not because the system isn’t worth it, because it is worth £300 (in the UK) all day long, but because of the timing, the credit crunch is upon us all and xbox 360’s are £150, for the people who don’t have much money and want a next gen console, which one are they going to go for? thats right the xbox 360. If sony lowered the price to £200 then people might stretch the extra money for the ps3.
