Sony seems to be less happy with the PS3 sales numbers than one could think. Or why else would they cooperate with the Taiwanese government to make local developers create more games for their console?
Yesterday Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has closed a cooperation deal with Sony that centers on the areas of human resources and financing. The aim of the project is to increase a bigger user and developer base in Taiwan that could then help create PS3 games suitable for the much bigger game market in mainland China.
Sony will mainly help connect Japanese and Western game developers with Taiwanese software engineers. The company also agreed to provide technical guidance and make sure relevant technologies from Japanese and Western game software firms will find its way to Taiwan. In addition, Sony will sponsor lectures about video game development to be given at Tatung University in Taipei and I-Shou University.
In return, the Taiwanese ministry promised it will subsidize 40% of all costs of game software development (including licensing deals) the Taiwanese companies incur.
Sounds like a good deal for Sony, doesn’t it? Just imagine America’s Department of Commerce doing the same for the PS3 or XBOX 360.

eh, consoles aren’t allowed in the Chinese market yet, don’t see how this deal indicates anything about Sony’s intentions in China.
If Sony didn’t suck so bad, they wouldn’t have to pay people to program games for it.

If Sony was liked by more than a hand-full of people, it would not be loosing money on every sale.
Don’t cite sales reports to me. Sales reports only tell you how many items are in stores, on shelves, in warehouses, and some actually are in peoples homes. Sony pays stores to hold units, as does Wii. Microsoft does not pay stores to hold units. Microsoft also doesn’t have a sales market in Japan, which is why only Japans sales are low. Sony has 10 units on the shelf for every single x-box 360.
Just because the facts say that Sony sucks, does not make it a bashing. Deal with it, you made a poor investment choice. That is like buying a supercomputer to play solitaire. No games even use all the technology inside PS3. (Mostly because it is buggy.)
