Nvidia’s Tegra chip hasn’t even hit the market, but we know for fact that Tegra 2 is on its way next year. There’s no set timeframe, but we believe it will hit the market sometime during the summer or so its been hinted at. The first Tegra device to be released stateside will be the Zune HD in the fall. I’ve already seen what it can do with Windows CE on a handful of netbooks that were showcased at Computex last month and I walked away very impressed. So what can we expect from Tegra 2?
The chaps from Nvidia stated that Tegra 2 could go toe-to-toe with current laptop configurations. In other words, Tegra 2 is said to be twice as fast and powerful as Tegra 1. Does that mean we’ll see it as the stand-alone core for a regular laptop? Maybe. All we know is that it’s “twice as powerful” and will drop next year.

can’t wait to see these in smartphones. actually i’m really looking forward to seeing these in the Zune HD to see how effective it can be.

Damn! Nvidia is churning out chipsets faster than OEMs can consume. First Ion II and now this! Boy oh boy!
And I want to believe that next year’s iPhone would be a Tegra II based phone :).
Like hell Apple will use WinCe-based chips.
Which is too bad for them if the claims of it lasting days in the ZuneHD are true
I can’t wait to get my hands on a htc phone with this in it
@Kashem Miah
the ZuneHD won’t take advantage of the platform a link in one of yesterdays comments on “mobile crunch” gives a good rundown on tegra and at the end mentions why the zune isn’t going to be all that great. Basically it’s not a HD device.

Forget the smartphones, they’re way overpriced and/or tied to outrageous contracts!
What we need is something to replace the crippled Atom in netbooks. Please AMD and NVidia free us from Atom hell…
Screw netbooks, I am more interested in what this can do for smartphones.
Maybe I can finally get a HTC WinMo phone that isn’t crippled to hell because Quallcomm are assholes when it comes to letting HTC get the drivers for their chips.
I hope HTC dumps Quallcomm in favor of the Tegra.
