I’m not joking. I would never joke about Asteroids. Yes indeed, it appears that the rock-blasting, vector-based classic is going to be a major motion picture. And what’s more, it’s helmed by the same guy doing the G.I. Joe movie! I’m sure it will bear about the same level of resemblance as that worthy film does to its source material.
Wired is already mocking the movie much, much harder than I planned to. Good for them.
Seriously though, people, I’m betting that actually watching someone play Asteroids will be more entertaining than this movie is going to be. Actually, watching a world champ go for the record could be pretty thrilling, King of Kong style. What do you say?

Who’s going to play the triangle?
They should port out the original game to allow an unlimited number of players on a digital cinema screen where everyone controls their ship with the iPhone. Now THAT would make the megaplexes a fun place to go!
Screw Asteroids.
Missile Command. Now that would make a good movie.
Actually, Atari DID release a sort of audio-drama cassette tape for Missile Command way back in the early 80’s and, as I recall, it wasn’t bad. I actually had a copy. (Might even still have it somewhere in my cellar.) Had something to do with bad diplomacy between aliens and human settlements.
Ahha.. her we go. Someone actually took some pictures of said audio-drama and a read-along book that I forgot it came with. :)

So it’s not at all unusual to imagine a movie for that one. And yes–there apparently was even one for Asteroids. :P
Awesome, dude. nice find.
OK.. I guess they even offer their old audio dramas for free on the web:
