Paparazzi beware! Flash purse stalks the stalkers

This crazy purse concept is essentially an LED flash built-into a clutch purse. When it senses a flash it will send out a brighter flash to blind the camera – and, presumably, the cameraman – and prevent the picture from coming out. The result? A ghostly halo around the subject but no facial features.

Although Harvey began developing the device for his class, he wasn’t able to perfect it, and since last fall he has continued to refine the design. Currently the wiring and batteries fit in a ladies’ clutch, but he hopes to continue reducing the size of the device to the point that it could be worn in something as small as a pendant or tie tack. In its current form the device is activated by powering it on and then tilting the clutch. The sensor will register a flash being fired from up to a 45 degree angle each way.

The device works at up to 1/125 shutter speed, thus effecting slower, low-light shots.

  • How long until the cameras with detectors come out? The cat and mouse continues.

    • So they spring the trap, then take the picture? yes, i like it! but also, her legs are quite sexy so the picture isn’t a complete waste!

  • Eattrn – Reminds me of a movie…”But they have a camera buster!” “We’ll just use the camera buster buster!” “But they have a camera buster buster!” “We’ll use a camera buster buster buster!”

Regardless, I think I need one of these…

  • If they used 850nm infrared LEDs they could achieve the same effects without irritating everyone one else. To that point you could just make a pair of eyeglasses with a IR LED on each side (always on) that would overexpose the face. No face = no money.

    • Probably because a good professional photographer is already filtering our infrared.. or will begin to once they see that trick being used.

  • Tp Bcos
I will now steal tour idea :P

  • This may be a nice starting point for paparazzi countermeasures. They need to consider the camera and strobe combination that it is designed stop.

Most paparazzi will be using a DSLR that will sync to a shutter speed of 1/250, 1/500 of a second and a strobe that can fire two to three time a second (with the proper power options). If this purse only flashes once and takes 2,3,4 or more seconds to recycle then the photographer will have several photos of their prey staring at a device that didn’t accomplish the job it was purchased for.

  • Umm, red light cameras could be rendered useless with this near a license plate!

gass it! that light is yellow!

  • Addon available where a laser beam shoots out and destroys the offending camera, available in leather or suede…RRP Priceless
