Although not as powerful as your kitchen microwave, it supposedly uses cell phone-esqe frequencies which are close to your microwave at about 2.4 GHz. How much talk time do you get on your cell with that tiny battery? If it is focused and directional, it'd work As Heinz is looking at marketing it, it may also be using special containers (snap pots) to better interact with those "waves"...

The Li battery pack is rechargable and not powered directly by USB (which is only 500mA max). At $150, it'd make a nice camping or office accessory for some.

This thing is a PR gimmick. A fake. The beans never got hot. The LCD display on the top is just printed on.

There's no way you're going to be able to run a magnetron tube and accompanying high voltage power supply off batteries in that device and expect any kind of useful run time. Then there's fitting the magnetron, HV supply, and stirring fan in the thing in the first place!

In order to get any sort of heating efficiency you need to run the magnatron at L-band frequencies. This think looks too small for that to be possible. I can see all sorts of problems with standing waves and uneven heating. Would work only with liquids perhaps.

Last but not least, with the HV supply running, don't drop it in water - zzzap.

C'mon CG, how did you fall for this?

I have no idea why, but I want one of these really badly. And I don't even eat baked beans.
