I don’t know where you guys are getting your information about video playback capability but I have an Acer Aspire One with an Atom processor (1.6 GHz) and it plays 720p video just fine with plenty of CPU to spare. I’ve streamed 720p Planet Earth episodes over wireless-G and it plays ‘em without a hitch–looks amazing too.

What Atom does it have? What’s the max memory size possible. Missing information.

Depending on the Atom and memory, it might do 480p ok. But it will never do HD properly with any Atom unless there’s a video processor.

You can get a small laptop for less than $1000. Dell has a 12″ model that starts around $500, but its not available in the US, a 13″ model is though. And there’s no bloody Atom cripple inside.

This is definitely an upgrade from my current HP Mini 1000. If I were in the market for another netbook, I’d consider this but right now I’m waiting for the Crunchpad or Apple’s new tablet/netbook. But this isn’t a bad offering from Sony.

Nothing like a “hi-res” screen that can not even push 480p Flash video. These Atom chips are 5 years too late.

That 1366×768 resolution is a deal maker for me. I can’t go under that screen size (1024×768 would be ok). Just having 600 pixels for the length just isn’t big enough!

I’m glad to see some netbooks coming out with these improvements. If you ever tried looking for a cheap, but small, laptop you’re typically looking at $1000 to $1500 (or more).
