I favor simplicity in all things, and while sometimes combining devices results in greater complexity, in this case it seems to simplify things. It’s possible, however, that the reason nobody has made one of these before is that something about it doesn’t work.
Even if that’s true, however, this thing also doublestriples as a weapon. That’s three devices in one!
It only costs $7 and you can get it cut by any key-cutting-type person. If you’re really intrigued, you can buy a 30% interest in the Split Ring Key if you’re the investing type.

So it really triples as a weapon.
Hmm. I stand corrected.
It be real comfortable trying to turn that in a tight lock. LOL. Until the ring bends or breaks or just separates or breaks right off of the rest of the key.
But hey they raised more than $1Million.
What if you have to take it off the “key ring”
One glaring problem.
It’s turned in a 90 degree direction away from the rest of the keys that would go on the ring.
That would make it quite a bit unconfortable in the old jean pocket.
Ooops
how do you put other keys on it? I mean usually you have to feed the key round one full turn then its on. but wont the “key” bit get in the way?
You can’t put any keys on the ring. The key built into the ring prevents additional keys from sliding 360 around the split ring.
Sweet! I am so going to buy one of these. I’m tired of my keys gnarling up my pocket chi.
if every key was made like this, your keychain would be huge! You only need 1 key to have the ring, and even then (as someone pointed out above) it isn’t perfect.
Now why didn’t I think of that?
dav4850, why 360? 90 degrees should be sufficient. The basic idea is only to have an overlapping section, so the opening of the ring is closed.
With this one you seem to simply have a 100 degree overlap, making the ring in fact easier to use. As long as the to overlapping pieces press hard enough against each other, this would work just as well as the 360 variant.
C’mon guys – The key is attached to only ONE SIDE of a typical split-ring keyring. so the keyring section will work just like any keyring does.
It is a nice idea and should work well IF it is made well. Cheap knock-offs may well appear fairly quickly and the ring section is likely to break on them fairly quickly. the reason being that the steel ring should be tempered as spring steel, while the key will have only a mild temper, if indeed any tempering at all. A key that is too “hard” from tempering will wear the lock out very quickly. Not to mention difficult to cut.
This is a fun idea, but technically it is quite a nice little achivement. I have many old steel keyrings and they work as well now as they did the day they were made almost 50 years ago. The trick with this has been to “graft” the key blade onto one side of the split ring, You do not want the blade to break off where it joints the ring, nor do you metal fatigue to break the ring in half, where it joins the blade from repeated turning in the lock, wear-and-tear from keys in pocket trying to twist the ring as you sit down, etc.
If you are the type who wears tight jeans, then this might well prove a little uncomfortable in your pocket. Perhaps time to invest in a clip or carabiner and hook your keys to a belt loop instead then?
now if they could invent a split-ring that you can separate and put more keys on without ripping a chunk out of your fingernail, that would be cool.
It’s a cool idea, but you certainly wouldn’t want to have all of your keys be keyrings.
“It only costs $7″
It’s even better – only $3.50. You get a pack of 2 for $7.
EXCELENT point Mike – I used to loos bits of fingernails opening split ringswide enough to get keys on.
In the end, I realised I could use another key, slide it between the rings and twist the key to open out the rings enough to get keys on/off.
A flat-blade screwdriver could probably do the same, but would be more likely to injure you if it slips than a key.
I love it!!! have never heard about that though:) I found also a few cool keyrings at this website. If you find something even more interesting, please let me know!
