HP Mini 110 gets pink and white color options, HD video accelerator add-on

HP

HP’s Mini 110 is now available in “Pink Chic” and “White Swirl” along with the original “Black Swirl” color. Also of note: HP is offering a $30 Broadcom video accelerator upgrade.

Formally called the “Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video accelerator with ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre,” the add-on chip provides “smooth high-definition video and audio playback.” Funny that in 2009 we need a $30 chip to do that. You’ll want to add the $30 screen upgrade, too, which bumps the resolution up to 1366×768.

So HD on a netbook? Looks like that’ll cost you $60 extra. Might be worth it for movie buffs.

  • It sucks that you can’t get the higher resolution screen on the Mi system. Why, HP, why?

  • Again CG, missing information. You don’t tell us the base price =/

I just configured a black Mini 110 with 160GB HDD, higher resolution screen, and graphics accelerator options. Came to $419.99 USD before check out. You have to pay more for colors other than black. That’s insulting.

Remember you can buy a real 14-15″ laptop with a real processor for around $500 from the likes of Acer/Emachines or soon from Gateway.

I suspect HP is having to pay a penalty on the price of the Atom because they’re breaking the Intel/Microsoft rules about crippling netbooks =(

I recommend you replace the 1GB SDRAM that comes with it with 2GB. A 2GB module costs around $28 USD. There’s no HP option for 2GB SDRAM =0 You can sell the old 1GB module on ebaY or send it to me for free =)
