Look, we already know a lot about the so-called Apple Tablet. We know the project is real and a lot of man power has been dedicated to the project. A China Times article might have answered a few of our questions though. That is, if the translated article can be trusted.
The Chinese trade publication is stating that Apple is working on a large screen touchscreen device; we knew that. What we didn’t know was when this device was coming out, but the Chinese supply chain companies are stating October. That’s also when the unibody Macbooks where introduced last year, btw.
The article also states that the screen size would be 9.7-inches. We were thinking it was going to come in around 7-9-inches anyway.
But is $800, the rumored price, set at the right spot? It kind of depends what type of OS this thing is running. If it turns out to be a large screen iPod touch like we originally reported with the same feature set but simply a larger screen, $800 might be a little high. But Apple gives the 9.7-inch tablet the full power of OS X and not limits the capability at all, $800 might be a bargain.
The CrunchPad has refueled the tablet fire. Consumers want this form factor. That is, as long as the OS can handle the web and the price is right.

Must. Support. Flash.
It. Will. Not. Apple wants to kill off Flash and it will probably run the iPhone OS. It will also probably have multitasking which will serve as the basis for it in the iPhone in OS 4.0 next year if true.
I would like to get it as my sole computer but don’t think it will be as powerful as the 13″ Macbook Pro. $800 is a little expensive but I think it will serve as the future for what laptops will eventually be replaced with.
it will run Snow Leopard. Safari 4 and the Snow Leopard Dock gives the whole show away. Fact of the matter is, the Dock was originally designed with touch capability in mind. Apple’s been heading this way since the Newton and it’s finally coming to “fruition” haha
Your Macbook 13″ IS NOT A PRO! and you know it isnt powerful enough to be called a PRO! stop riding the Apple rebrand that pleases the CHEAP CHUMPS like you, if you actually need performance you have a pro or mac pro – so in response, i am sure your ipod touch (as i doubt you have an iphone 2G let alone the 3Gs lol) will be able to update your twitter and let you look at a few pictures so youll be fine! haha….KID!
ahahaha

please check yourself… before you flame.
I would say it has a slot on the side to slide in your iphone to use with tethering and calls.
And it will be a mainly internet centric device on its own.
One more thing, with built in isight for video conference on the iphone/itablet combo.
sweeeeeeeeet
definitely no slot lol. however, don’t be surprised if there is an iMac like home base sold for it. That’d be sweeeeet.
I am pretty sure apple will just include bluetooth, instead of building an iphone slot….
Never gonna happen.
if you think about it…
you can’t expect apple to have a larger “ipod touch”-esque device running OSX @$800. esp. when an iPhone cost $599 no contract, expecting something bigger to be $200 more doesn’t seem right…
I never thought I would see an Apple for less than $800….
Now all that is needed as a CrunchPad update to ride on this news!!! The CrunchPad should have some fun going against this thing if it can keep up.
Im so ready!
LMFAO! but i guess you have to say it since you get paid.
“The CrunchPad has refueled the tablet fire. Consumers want this form factor. That is, as long as the OS can handle the web and the price is right.”
Don’t get me wrong. I want one, but just for web browsing as its intended for. You don’t really think the CrunchPad can compete with either aan oversized Ipod Touch or a real tablet, do you?
Keeep drinking the lemondade!
I love the lemonade comment, but it sounds like you’re the one drinking the Apple lemonade.
If the iPhone has proven anything it’s that you don’t need a traditional computer anymore; what is it that you think you can’t do with either a web-app or a native app? Do you have some inside info on why their OS couldn’t keep up with the iPhone [or "oversized iPod Touch"].
Will we be doing CAD on these web-based devices? Probably not for a little while, but anything else is fair game.
I would very much like the crunch-pad to succeed. But I am afraid battery life might be poor because it uses atom processor. Hope Intel has provided a customised Moblin to Crunchpad team, so that it can run for atleast 8 hrs. Also since it is x86 based, hope there is a way to hack it and run Windows in dual boot mode.
I’m not gonna hold my breath for anything…
You wait – $800, no flash, no cut and paste, does only one thing at a time, and the real cost with contract will be $10,000 – and the Apple Zombies will still line up line for it. Sheeesh
if it runs *full* OSX, all features will be there. Curious to see what it will be like when it gets here. Probably stick to my macbook pro and consider crunchpad for lazy browsing…
Just make a bigger version of the iPhone, tablet size. Kick back on the couch and surf the web and stuff.
Done.
I would think that the advantage of it being a smaller tablet is to carry it around instead of a laptop or a netbook.
9.7 inches is the largest size e-ink display currently produced by PVI……
Well, this is the first time I’ve heard about the apple tablet and I’m really looking forward to seeing it in the market. I just hope that the $800 price is not true. It’s really heavy on the pocket especially now that there is recession. People are saving money.
$800 is a bait. The thing’s gonna cost something around the same as Macbook Air, between $1,200 and $1700.
exactly.
I’m going to get one the day it releases. It looks like a great mobile device and if it’s anything close to the iphone it’ll be great.
As long as its not using the Ipod’s OS, it should be a kick ass laptop
I don’t get it. Apple is the biggest waste of money on the planet. College kids go out and spend $2K on a freaking computer and learn all they need to know about a MAC. Then they get a REAL job and realized, “holy Sh*t, i need to know how to use a PC for any REAL job out there”. Idiots.
exactly !!!
Thats frigin Huge! lol
And if I pull that bad boy out in the bus id get robbed lol. Hope they have Security GPS tracking on that. Simular to IPHONE security .
