Infinity Ward has spoiled the hopes of Modern Warfare fanbois everywhere by doing their own pre-release unboxing of the special editions of Modern Warfare 2. A little weird having an unboxing for a game not coming out for another three months, but it’s worth it to see what’s in there. Sure, you got your special metal game case, your fun art book that you’ll read so many times, but the kicker is the functioning night vision goggles and sculpted head included in every “Prestige” edition of the game.
Considering a monocular night vision system costs at least $200 by itself (far more for a head-mounted binocular one like they have there), I’m guessing this edition is going to cost you slightly over MSRP for the game.
It’s cool, to be sure, but it’s like including a car with Need For Speed and then pricing the game at $29,000. These things are sold separately for a reason! And I play games with night vision in them because I can’t actually afford real night vision goggles, special edition ones or not!

I can’t see anyone paying the extra cash for night vision goggles they won’t use.
I Would easily use them!
thats y they are already sold out!! try getting your hands on one of them now…
Their not free, my bum.
Your paying £150 for all that !!!
Dumb.
I am going to guess $150. I mean they look different, but probablly on par with the $60 EyeClops you can buy in the toy aisle.
LOL crap and stupid. Money hungry move that hopefully leaves the modern warfare peeps with their pants down. Obviously their is a reason they are sold separately, stupid stupid stupid…
You say stupid but…
Well, when I was picking up my collector’s edition of Halo, they formed three lines, normal, collector and lgendary edition…….
Needless to say, my collector’s edition line was the smallest and the legendary was the largest.
Call it stupid, but don’t tell me you aren’t tempted.
I dont think including night vision goggles with cod mw2 is stupid. My vote leans more towards awesome. My vote may not matter but none the less im tempted to get the prestige edition i wish it was out now seeing as i have the money and all =/
night vision? kool ! bout to go hunt down some snakes in the everglades in FL !
These are not so much, night-vision goggles, as they are IR deterection goggles.
They work not by amplifing existing light like real goggles, but by giving off light with IR LED’s and then picking that up. The goggles will be basically, a video-camera set in night-shot using IR LED’s for light. Very similar to the night-vision goggle toy at toys-r-us.
It’s not the real thing, but as close as you can get for a low cost. Plus, they are going to be a bit higher quality then the toys-r-us model, making them a bit nicer, even if they only have about a 30 foot range.
they say the range is 50feet. not bad at all. i think its worth the extra bucks. and you get the token for cod classic along with it and the headstand i mean cmon and the collectors edition too.!
I would just like to say that i looked around and real NVG’s like there offereing are 1k+, also if you look closely at the movie you can see the led’s around the lens which means its nothin more than a $50 toy
how much do those night vision googles cost so i no im getting a good deal
I found the south african price for the pretige edition.R2299.95 if you look that up into a currency converter for us it is roughly priced at about $300. so that would equal what $60 for the game and $240 for the goggles? as far as the leds around the lens i imagine it would work the same as a security system like the ones you can get at sam’s club. i’m not sure if i would get it. but for the collector’s out there i suppose if you got one and kept it in mint condition it would be worth more than what you paid for after 5 years i imagine..
On Kalahari.net in South Africa they are offering this version for R1637 on pre-order. That’s currently $210. Not bad at all, considering the toy goggles go for R1000 ($128) in the shop, it makes the game come out at R600, which is $76 – around the usual 360 game launch price here.
“Free night vision goggles” my ass, but that’s freaking sweet~
Nice googles man! I like it.
what generation night vision goggles are they? im sure not the best but, depending on how functional they are depends on if it s worth it or not to me.
