First off, you can’t afford this flash drive. But even if you can, you shouldn’t buy it. I mean, today, it will cost you $900, but we all know next year it will be $90, if not less. So take a good look at the Kingston DataTraveler 300 and drift off into a dream of what the future holds for SSDs and flash drives.

Does anyone know if drives of this magnitude carry some type of fuse that will protect it from bad USB ports. I’ve seen my share and burned out my share of usb drives in the past.
Huh? Bad USB ports SHOULDN’T be burning out drives! If you have had that happen…. don’t blame the port, blame the drive, it was just time for it to fail.
Glaized over eyes…256GB…drool
WOW. That is small and convenient. It could be used as an external hard drive. That’s a lot of money for one. I hope they lower the price so that I can get more than one of them.
I remember, when i bought USB-drive 64 Mb for price 80$. :)
I don’t see why it would cost so much I mean you can get 1TB hard drives now for around $100 and this isn’t even half a TB.
FLASH DRIVE! That is the reason. The chips that they use in these flash drives are still VERY expensive when it comes down to it.
Because a flash drive is more portable and requires no power supply. :)
It’s because of how they are made. HDD: Fragile, huge (SOME), slow, loses memory alot easier… Flash: ULTRA portable, highly durable, extremely small, fast (SOME), higher memory stability, not needing extra power for rotating disks, lighter, memory stored on more expensive (MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE) chips and boards… But, they DO need to lower prices! I mean, how much harder is it to make them?
Also flash drive has not moved elements.
I think if speed and duribility remains the same and cost come down as like other solid state drives then due to its small size and less weight in future it will definitly replace the hard disks in all future laptops and desktops .
This technology is still under develop and I hope that after three years the computers will have no mechanical drives.
Moreover, it will change the world. No more CD, DVD drives will be used. Just only flash drive will be used in all office, domastic, transport and in industrial machines.
Its highest cost is due to per chip capacity, per wafer percentage production and its development techniques that used currently.
flash drives are faster, smaller, use less power can survive major drops. flash is the future. forget magnetic hard disk drives or optical cd/dvd/blu-ray disks. these are big, power hungry devices which are slow and easily corruptible. their only advantage is they are cheaper than flash… for now that is. i switched my hdd for an ssd and laptop battery now lasts 4.5 hours. that’s more than a 100% increase, not to mention faster. movies should now be released on flash, so we don’t have to use those clumsy optical devices.
just my 2 cents
USB Flash drives have poor reliability. The number of read/write cycles will have to be improved by a factor of 100 or more before I use it as a hard drive. The memory in a Solid State Drive is substantially better because it has to tolerate so many cycles. Disk controllers for SSD’s require the use of wear leveling. Don’t want to read/write the same cell over and over. There in lies the cost difference. Also, this form factor looks like two 128 gig boards stacked on one another.
Considering that the flash drive I just bought is guaranteed for 100000 write cycles…. I don’t really see your point.
Hey guys any one know what it’s price is???
I suppose it’s around 500-600 USD…
It’s not worth it…
it’s nice but can anyone tell me what’s is price .
they are saying its for middle east and foreast but its not availabl in middle east
plz any1 know where i can found it becoz i need two
I like the idea of flash drives in such large sizes. However, I have heard that there is a limited number of writes that you can do on a flash drive. Is there any truth to this rumor?
i hear they are good for 500-1000 times, but so are nimh batteries! mine (nimh batteries) die after i think 20-30 charges. i would get worried at 100 flashes:(
i bought one yesterday. iits dooope@!!!
It’s already cheaper than that.. I saw it on ebay.. for less than $200

This one’s at 348.10 USD
Great price but fake or not fake from ebay ? How can you tell ? I’ve bought 2 or 3 2×16GB and 1×32GB flash drives from ebay none hold files properly wate of money
it is supply and demand. there is a huge supply of 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128 mb flashes to demand consumers take off the market (buy them!) THEN the price will fall as demand for 256, 512, 1TB etc come available. for me, a couple 32s would be nice!. or just an 8!
I work as a sys admin and this actually could be useful for transferring massive log files from solaris/linux onto windows machines for investigation. Maybe when the prices goes to $200-$300 I will write it off as a business expense.
