What a great way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Moon landing by owning an $800 pen. The Fisher Space pen is of course legendary for it’s ability to write in space, but this one packs a little something special. The top of the pen features a bit of thermal insulation used on the Columbia Command Module that’s engraved with a picture of the Moon landing. That’s eff’n cool, but I don’t know if it’s $800 cool. If you think so, you better hurry up ’cause there is only going to be 1,000 available.
Oh, and the photos of the pen are locked down by a bulletproof copywrite to SpacePen.com so what you’re looking at is not the actual pen. SpacePen.com apparently doesn’t want anyone using this thing called the “Internet.” But I love you all and thought I would post the neat pen despite the dick move.

Funny bit of history — while NASA was spending hundreds of thousands of dollars figuring out how to make a ballpoint pen work in zero-Geee, the Soviets were handing out pencils to their Cosmonauts.
Tom, that’s an urban legend. Nasa was quite happy to use pencils, it was a pen company that spent the money to develop a zero/low-g pen as a marketing tool. Once they existed, Nasa used them, but they didn’t pay to develop them.
So the pen is 800 bucks and they want to charge a dollar fifty to engrave a line of words on it. Deal breaker.
