If you watched in agony as the very-cool MoGo Talk Bluetooth iPhone headset was announced and given away here on CrunchGear while your BlackBerry sat idly on your desk, take heart. The BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Javelin versions are coming and we’re giving 50 of the Curve models away.

Newton Peripherals has developed a flat-folding Bluetooth headset that’s just five millimeters thick and rests in a tiny charging slot integrated into an included replacement BlackBerry battery cover. So your headset’s with you at all times and you can split off your phone’s charging cord to power the micro-USB port that charges the headset.

The MoGo Talk will also be available for the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Tour in the future, and Newton is toying around with the idea of integrating the actual headset charging directly into the handsets so that your phone itself could recharge the headset while it’s docked.

According to Stuart Nixdorff, President of Newton Peripherals:

“We designed these MoGo Talk models specifically for BlackBerry users who value the integration of phone, email and a Bluetooth headset on a single device. Our ultimate goal is to integrate MoGo Talk units with all mobile phones; in the case of RIM, these new MoGO Talk models charge and store on the back of BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Javelin models, with Bold and Tour models to follow. We are exploring further integrations with RIM devices that would enable MoGo Talk to charge directly with a BlackBerry unit from a single power cord.”

  • Not a big fan of the blackberry myself – sorry!

  • I have tested product and not impressed with quality of audio. Also charging needs additional cable, what the heck!

  • State-of-the art Bluetooth devices, such as these are really amazing. Thanks to Bluetooth technology, people can now go wireless and hands-free when talking to someone or when listening to music—just perfect when you’re always on the road.

  • I’m interested in the MoGo Talk for our laptops, iPhone, and Blackberry Bold, but still have questions:

FIRST OF ALL, the video of Newton President Stuart Nixdorff on last month’s MoGo Talk iPhone CG article quoted a $99 price for the iPhone model, which has been echoed by other blogs and news outlets (such as ZDNet):

    http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/06/09/exclusive-mogo-talk-bluetooth-headset-for-iphone-folds-down-to-5mm-thin-were-giving-50-away/

This latest CG article also mentions a $99 price for the MoGo Talk BB Curve. The BB Javelin model is the only one said to be $129.

But mogostore.com is actually selling *all* MoGo Talk cell phone kits at $129, with only the laptop kit at $99. Which is correct?

SECONDLY, why couldn’t the MoGo Talk iPhone case directly tap the phone’s battery via the Apple dock connector, to charge the headset while on the go (and avoid needing a power cable splitter when charging at home)? Newton says they’re toying with this idea for future MoGo Talk Blackberry models, but not the iPhone?

I envision something like mophie’s juick pack air battery case for the iPhone, which *covers* the Apple dock connector and exposes a micro USB connector in its place. Charging the micro USB connector charges both the iPhone’s battery and the extra case battery at the same time. (In fact, I would love it if a future MoGo Talk iPhone model also adds a battery inside its case!)

FYI the current MoGo iPhone case doesn’t seem to cover the bottom of the iPhone at all, and instead has a separate micro USB connector on the side to independently charge the headset…

LASTLY, is the MoGo Talk earpiece interchangeable among all the cell phone/laptop charging cradles? Will Newton sell the different cradles separately as accessories?

    • I sent your questions along to the company and got the following back:

“On price the express card model is $99. Mobile phone kits are $129.

There is still the crunchgear discount.

I know the guys are noodling with next-gen model options but all phone back [models] coming out this year charge by mini USB.”

So I guess they all officially cost $129 now, although you can use our discount code to get 30% off. Newton also said they’d be happy to set up a conference call between you and the development team to discuss the more technical aspects if you like.

Send me an e-mail at doug at crunchgear dot com if you’re interested.

  • gotta have this for my BB 8310!!!
