Friends, you cannot go anywhere on the Internet without running into the OEM version of Windows 7. This is the same version of the operating system that’ll be loaded onto your Dells, your HPs, your Lenovos, etc.
I mention this why? Not to tell you where to get it, obviously, but merely to marvel at the speeds of The Scene. (Though some Scene releases are timelier than others!) We’re looking at the biggest software launch of the year—yes, bigger than Snow Leopard’s—leaked to the Internets, then distributed with such efficiency that you ask yourself why can’t members The Scene apply their obvious talents for good instead of evil.
Anyhow, I spy the release circulating at “Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Original MS ISO x64-GRP ” and “Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Original MS ISO x86-GRP.” The x64 version is a little bigger than the x86 version—3.00GB versus 2.33GB. (So don’t go downloading “Windows 7 REAL CONFIRMED WORKING” when it weight in at 100KB. That would be computer suicide.)
I won’t be downloading because, well, that would be illegal—wink—but also because I’m fine with Mac OS X on my laptop, and, increasingly, Linux Mint on my old iMac.

I won’t be downloading 7 since I am happy with XP. I will probably be using 7 come November. I plan on getting another pc and will just get one with 7 on it.

Win7 OEM wouldn’t be out there in droves if Micro$oft didn’t want it there. They want to get you pregnant then put the screws to you with Windows Update and Windows Genuine Advantage.
The Scene is working for good, just not the good of the really rich. If you think about it, they are working for the public good.
I installed win7 on 4 desktops 2 netbooks and 3 laptops and no drivers needed to download so far… i think we have a winner here…
Actually it’s not illegal to download and use. You get 30 days trial which you can extend 3 times (by shell commands – provided by Microsoft) before you are forced to enter a valid product key, by which time October 22nd will have arrived and you get get your boxed version from your favorite retailer. Obviously you want to download the retail version, not the OEM so they key you buy will work.
Been using Windows 7 for a few months now (still on 7057 build, but just got OEM).
I will buy this when it releases. I just didn’t want to wait to put it on one of my systems in OEM form.
Good job, Microsoft – I didn’t really have the problems others did w/Vista, and even still Win7 is leaps and bounds better than it.
If you are timid or wanting to stick w/XP and/or Vista for whatever reason don’t bother. Windows 7 has been a breeze.
