Go and update your iPhone! 3.0.1 is out and it fixes the SMS vulnerability that’s been whipped up into a security frenzy over the last couple days. Hopefully we’ll be hearing less about how impregnable Apple’s OSes are after this little event (and those other ones).

  • Are there any changes besides fixing the SMS vulnerability?

  • Now that hackers care about Apple, this won’t be the last of these patches, I think.

  • I think that statement is a little disingenuous it’s not an iPhone exploit it’s a gsm exploit meaning almost all gsm phones have the vulnerability. Apple should actually be applauded for fixing the security hole the day it was demonstrated. I haven’t heard of any other gsm phone makers patching the hole yet.

  • They knew about it a few weeks back, Android already patched for a while, windows mobile soon after. apple has been the late guy in this.

    • actually they new about for months.they were told by the same guys who broke the first it in the first or second installment.they announced and showed it at the big due they just had a week and a half ago i think it was. the whole story was talked about in Crackberry.com it was a good 1.

  • I upgraded to 3.0.1 yesterday, and i’m now having battery life problems. I can watch it tick down a percent every couple minutes, just idle. Also, I’ve seen it jump *up* from maybe 18% to 30% without charging.

  • Me too, since upgrading, my battery life is draining more than 5% per hour, with location services and push both turned off!

  • I am also noticing a massiv drain on my battery. I just went out this morning to change my phone as my 3 day old one wouldnt even charge after the 3.0.1 install. Got the new one, still the same also just done all the repairs like turn off push etc and also restored as a new iphone, this is madness, the most expensive phone around or rather one of them and my old motorolla 8100 and compass and map are much better. Go to sleep apple ive been a fan for many years but a fan no more

    • I am also noticing a massive battery drain after upgrading. It won’t hold the charge. It also stopped synching my Exchange contacts and calendar items. Very frustrated!

      • Dear All,

Try this solution which I found on the net. Seems to work..

        Regards,
        Roy

        you are wrong…..

The problem is with OpenSSH and not SBSettings.

If you have a jailbroke phone here are the steps to fix the heat and battery drain.

        1. Uninstall SBSettings
        2. Install OpenSSH
        3. Install SBSettings
        4. Go into SBSettings and turn off OpenSSH

        Working, cool, phone.

  • I just upgraded to the OS 3.0.1 and now, I have massive issues with the battery charging and retention.
It is so frustrating. I cannot afford to have my battery die on me. So far, I have not seen my iPhone with the green bar beyond the 50% mark.

I tried this site for some help

I am not sure if it helps but I certainly know that this is a worldwide issue that after the OS upgrades, there has been many complaints on the battery charging.

While I love my iPhone, I am thinking of going back to Nokia which seems far more realiable.

  • Fixed the problem by doing a system reset. Applecare, of course, suggests the most brainless thing, which is to “restore” the system, which essentially deletes everything. The reset does the trick with minimal resetting of preferences.
