EA game doesn’t appear to be stumbling block for Fedor to fight in UFC

Here’s an update to something I touched on the other day: Does Fedor’s inclusion in EA’s MMA video game preclude him from fighting in the UFC? Apparently not, if you believe what UFC president Dana White said at a press conference yesterday.

The press conference yesterday addressed a number of issues, including the return of Tito Ortiz and a deal with ESPN UK. (ESPN is launching a new channel in the UK, primarily to showcase all the Premiership games it just won the rights to.) But what concerns us here at CrunchGear is that EA MMA game.

Dana White has said in the past that anyone, with the exception of Randy Coture, who signs up to be in the EA game will not fight in the UFC. Fedor looks to be another exception. White said that he offered Fedor an “assload of money,” a deal that he’ll never find anywhere else in mixed martial arts. For whatever reason, Fedor’s people didn’t agree to the deal. (Rumor has it that Fedor’s people want to co-promote any possible UFC fight, presumably against Brock Lesnar, something that UFC doesn’t want to agree to.)

So, reading between the lines, Fedor’s inclusion in the EA game should have no effect on any possible UFC fight(s). Other things may hold up the deal, but it doesn’t look to be the game.

  • His team is nuts to decline the offer they got from the UFC. I think it was 30 million for 5 fights? Not to mention if he beat Lesnar he would explode even further in the sport. UFC is buying out all his competition, Who does he think hes going to fight to draw in a decent crowd? Circus fights only go so far for entertainment.

  • Also wanted to say I think hes a legend but how can anyone say hes the best without fighting all the top fighters.

    • Way to do your homework Tech Crunch…You should stick to technology.

First. the main reason Fedor’s camp has declined any of the offers from Mr. White is because the UFC wouldn’t let him continue in his Nation’s Sambo Championships(Russia), which he has won 12 times including this year, if he signs exclusively.

Secondly,Kyle N, Are you kidding me?? Fedor is the greatest because he has never lost a fight and HAS taken out the greatest fighters including:

      Renato Sobral
      Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira
      Andrei Arlovski
      Tim Sylvia
      Mirko Cro Cop
      Hong Man Choi
      Mark Coleman
      Mark Hunt
      Kazuyuki Fujita
      Kevin Randleman

And when he finally matches up against Brock(whom I think is freakin awesome), though it may be a 5 round blood match, Mr. Lesnar will get broken down & submitted.

      • just so you know sYgnal …. it is only the co-promotion aspect killing the deal. Dana said himself he can go do sambo every thurs. night for all he cared.
It doesn’t matter anyway……. he is fighting for strikeforce now.
        talk about doing your homework.

        • Please, hyperlink or supply the website where you saw this statement. I’m serious, I’ve been following this thing for quite some time & I have been kinda frustrated that this deal has always hit some sort of road block. And,now, with the cancellation of Affliction: Trilogy(Damn you Mr. Barnett – You’re a great fighter,. Why do you need steroids?), I am dying to see this master fight again.
