While “groundbreaking” isn’t technically on our list of words companies need to stop using so much, I think it still counts as being one. After all, practically every feature in every camera that gets put out these days is touted as being revolutionary in some way, and very few are even evolutionary. But hey, maybe this announcement really will be groundbreaking!
Nikon Rumors is doing a little speculating, and I like the idea of a camera with a built-in projector. The first one would probably be awful, but I kind of like the idea. With that and a remote, you might actually want to do a little editing of photos on the device. In any case, next week isn’t very far away, so we’ll find out soon.

groundbreaking would be a smart phone with a camera that has a 10+ MP, and a touch screen, with wireless bluetooth capability. But then again, it’s not really groundbreaking is it? I’ll wait to see what this new ground breaking thing is from Nikon. http://ziggytek.com/
a 10+MP camera on a phone would be terrible – bad lens, bad sensor, bad processor = bad pictures.
Speaking of that list what if a company truly does unveil something revolutionary/groundbreaking
maybe this announcement really will be groundbreaking!
Number one, Nikon makes horrible point and shoot cameras. Anyone who has owned one and has upgraded to a Canon (or even Sony) knows that. I’m fairly certain that Nikon’s ‘revolutionary’ product will be quite the opposite. We shall see. Coolpix ought to be renamed ‘Dumbsh*t.’ Please, do yourself a favor and purchase a quality camera – get a Canon Powershot.
tell us how you really feel!
At some point, our cameras will have a 3G connection and every picture is automatically uploaded. No more memory cards or anything… plus you can have it sent straight to facebook, flickr, etc. and use some automation service for tagging the pictures.
It must be something good.
I hope they make cameras running Android. Then there would need to be some kind of data connection deal without voice. That could open the door to competitively priced dumb-pipe data connections for multiple devices, all in one billing account. I imagine the first such camera would be hamstrung in some way, e.g. you would need to use some crappy proprietary Nikon app, the interface would be redesigned in the form of a Denny’s menu, etc. And that’s not so bad, because actually a simple proprietary software could make it easier for people to adopt the technology.
But I think something with a built-in projector seems a lot more likely.
No no no, they’re being *literal.*
Everyone knows it’s the top secret “Shovel-Cam”
