I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, but just in case: Fedor will not be fighting in the UFC any time soon, as he has signed a contract with rival promotion Strikeforce. So if you’re were hoping, one day, to see him fight Brock Lesnar, well, it looks like you’re out of luck.
The only reason I mention this here, instead of mmacrunch.com, is because Fedor is the marquee signing for EA’s upcoming MMA game. UFC president seemed ready to make an exception to his “if you appear in the EA game, you’ll never fight in UFC” rule, offering Fedor an “assload of money” to fight.
Who exactly Fedor will fight in Strikeforce is still unknown. He said in a press release that “Strikeforce is a top fight promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world,” and that he is prepared to fight “any of them.”
It should be noted that Strikeforce, to quote comedian Patrice Oneal, is the WNBA of mixed martial arts. It’s nice that it exists, sure, but you don’t watch it thinking you’re getting the absolute best, elite fighters.
Dana White has since called Fedor a “joke,” and said that he “feel[s] sorry for the real fight fans. I wanted to make the deal, but it takes two and it is very obvious Fedor doesn’t want to fight the best, and doesn’t give a shit about the fans.”
That Dana, always one with words.
A dream died yesterday, and as a newer fan of UFC I can honestly saw that I saw more than a little bummed out when I first found out about Fedor-Strikeforce.
And that’s probably the last I’ll talk about the story here. If the worlds—MMA and tech—collide again, there I’ll be.
I am a big fan of Fedor. But I sort of agree with Dana on this one. Every fan wants to see him come to the UFC or at least sign a fight deal with the UFC. Oh well I guess.

I think Fedor is the best pound for pound fighter in the history of the sport. I would love to see him against Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, and Frank Mir. I honestly don’t think any one of these guys has a shot against Fedor!

You need to wake up and realize there has been and still are other fighters in the world as good and better than those in the UFC today. You need to look at the fighters Fedor has faced and beat, and if you do not change your opinion you are actually dumber than your post makes you sound. I love the UFC as well but appreciate the great fighters all over the world(and there are many) and Fedor has beat the elite of the elite. You dont have to agree with his decision to sign with strikeforce but you cant take away what he has accomplished in his career. Grow up and learn the sport

UFC won’t sign with Fedor because his company wants to co-promote, meaning they share the money earned for the fight. Dana doesn’t need the money because UFC is just going to get bigger. I say co-promote and give the fans what they want. Dana has nothing to lose.

Finally!! Someone who sees what is actually going on. BUT… Dana is just pissed because he knows how much money the UFC is losing without this deal. That’s the only reason why he’s talking shit. Sure, the UFC is gonna get bigger,but, Fedor would bring in far more revenue than any other fighter could. Fedor would fucking crush Brock Lesnar & has crushed the elite in MMA around the world. He would dominate the heavyweight division because Brock is the only real competition in the UFC (like Brock L said,”Because of his weight”)…lmao). Unfortunately(kind of), MMA has become quite popular,so, there is money to be made with more than one promotional company.
Honestly,I love MMA, the UFC & give credit to all of these fighters-AND- Fedor is my favorite…BUT, Fedor could never fight “the best” because those guys are unknown & don’t want to fight under the silly rules that these MMA organizations have imposed due to safety reasons. Plus, imho, the “best” usually are loyal to their Art Forms spirituality & creed and don’t believe in these circus like venues.

Another thing to consider is that Fedor would be coming in and fighting in the octagon as opposed to a ring. I think this worked to Cro Cop’s detriment in his first UFC bout… aside from looking under trained and fighting Congo.
Other than the political and camp differences- I think Fedor coming in to fight at HW championship level under different rules and format would be a risky career move. And honestly the last thing Fedor needs to do at this point in his career is prove himself to the UFC and it’s fans.

Seems to me Fedor doesn’t want to compete in such an aggressive league like UFC – none others really compare.
Pride might be an exception, but even then UFC fighters are better, majority rules.
Dont’ forget that Rampage is a former Pride fighter. So I think that proves that the transition is possible. Maybe if Dana gave Fedor a spot on The Ultimate Fighter he would come. Although he would need a translator. haha
Pride was widely considered to be the best Promotion, but they wen’t under, UFC got a lot of great guys from Pride, but a lot of great guys went to Strikeforce.

What’s all this talk about Fedor being a coward?
It’s all about money and control. Dana doesn’t want to lose complete control of UFC, and Fedor has ambitions beyond fighting.
I don’t blame either for the positions they’ve taken. Dana isn’t going to risk having the title taken out of his arena. And Fedor wants to use the leverage he has to strengthen his own competing promotions.
Yet, it is a real shame that we can’t see Brock and Fedor get it on. There’s so much money to be made from showing a fight between them that I wouldn’t be surprised if Dana were to set up a non-title fight between them outside of the UFC.
I think any delays will be to Brock’s benefit because he’s on such a fast learning curve. I think Fedor has just about maxed out while Brock has a long way to go.
If the were to fight today I think Fedor might submit him. But in a year or two……..the outcome might be different.
My advice to Fedor would be to try to set up a non-title exhibition with Brock, and to take him on as soon as possible. And to Brock I would say, “Hey Dude, cool it. There ain’t no hurry. Keep on with your work and don’t let all that idiotic static get to you.”
