Yeah, RadioShack is turning into the Shack

So RadioShack is now the Shack. They’re also going to put a huge laptop in New York and one in San Fran. You’ll be able to chat with people on these laptops. Homeless people will eventually pee on both.

I personally think this is one of the stupidest ideas ever but hey, what do I know. After all, naming your store after a place the guy from Sling Blade would hide out after he killed his momma might be a good idea for some marketing executives and remember. Clearly a ramshackle old cottage that has become a haven for crack fiends and pederasts is exactly what they want me to think about when I’m shopping for TVs. I, for one, probably won’t be going into any Shacks for the next few decades.

  • It is sad because it’s a last ditch effort to try to turn the company around. Most RadioShacks are small so The Shack isn’t that far off.

Last year or two they were talking about being able to get cell phones since they had stores and kiosks which provided this. It’s going to be harder to help people understand why they can only buy a phone from one Shack but can buy computers, TVs, cameras, consoles and games at another.

I mean just look at the content they’re running on CrunchGear. They should have kept the name as is or made The Shack a bunch of concept stores. My dad has been buying batteries (and overpaying for them) for at least 15 years and he may not be able to find it since he only knows it by name.

It’s sad but I’m sure he isn’t the only person since I don’t see a bunch of teenagers running into a Radio Shack for anything (except maybe to steal something).

  • Will they still be giving away crappy batteries with a crappy battery card? Will they still have the same crappy parts that break a week after you buy them? Will they still have the same horrible inattentive counter jockies? Good riddance to the CRAP SHACK. More room for Nail Salons in the Strip Malls. I know this may sound kind of harsh, but seriously have you been in one of these places lately? Thank God for Fry’s.

    • Obviously you haven’t, they really cleaned up their stores. You should actually walk into one. I think they quit giving away batteries on that card like 10 years ago. So obviously you are talking out of your butt.

Oh yeah, and anyone who knows anything about the stock would know that the company has ridiculous margins. They may have little selection, but they make alot of profit. I don’t think they are going anywhere for a long time.

  • Radioshack should revert to the way they were 15 years ago and sell electronic hobby parts, RC toy parts, cables, and adapters. Forget about selling TVs, stereos and mobile phones. If they want to expand, they should start selling computer parts and accessories. They are to far behind and to small a store with little selection to compete with Best Buy, Frys and online stores.

  • I work for “the Shack” and just to let you all know
were not changing our name its just a new sales theme were still radioshack and also we sell cell phones in everystore. and for all those who think we came up with “the shack” we didnt its a play off of what people have been calling us for years i know tons of people that have and still call it “the shack” And if you think that were just changing a name to attract youth and we didnt actually change at all why dont you step in one of the stores we carry allot more varietys of things that we never had before. Just wanted to say a couple things ive been seeing all these storys online and none of them seem to have correct information.

  • Still sucks. Due to the limited selection, this is the last place I would go. The prices aren’t even that great.

I would prefer that the TV’s go completely. Simply no one is buy 9″ TVS anymore – they are buying big screen LCDs’. Most of the stores are tiny, so you can’t even fit more than one or two models.

Make makes the most sense for Radio Shack is to either shut down most of the dinky neighborhood stores and consolidate into much bigger ones or focus on selling parts like they used to. Perhaps then they can compete on the level of BestBuy or the defunct CircuitCity.

    • Yeah, big stores and high costs. I can tell you were a real math major. Obviously this worked out real well for Circuit City.

Again, anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together would look at the corporate earnings before they ran their yapper.

  • The Love Shack is a little old place
    where we can get together!!!
    Love shack!
