Sorry, Wii and PS3 owners. You ain’t getting Netflix streaming despite other claims. Microsoft has inked an exclusive deal with Netflix to keep the movie streaming on the Xbox 360.

Netflix Partnership

This exclusive partnership offers you the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the television via Xbox 360. Xbox 360 will be the only game console to offer this movie-watching experience, available to Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix unlimited plan subscribers**, at no additional cost.

From the Netflix Web site, simply add movies and TV episodes to your instant Queue, which will appear automatically on the TV screen via Xbox 360. Once selected, movies will begin playing in as little as 30 seconds. In addition to instantly streaming Netflix movies to the TV, Xbox LIVE Gold members can browse and rate movies, fast-forward, pause and rewind, all using either their Xbox 360 Controller or Universal remote.

If you don’t have a Xbox 360, there are a ton of ways to stream Netflix. The service is available on everything from Windows Media Center, PlexRoku boxes, TiVo, Samsung and LG Blu-ray players along with Vizio and LG HDTVs. Oh, and Sony Bravia HDTVs are getting the access too. Or you can always, you know, use the traditional mail-order DVD service to get your Netflix on.

  • oh bother, I guess im gonna hav to keep using my laptop connected to my LCD TV in order to enjoy netflix with the family. Who cares if my laptop has a better browser for viewing titles than the 360. Oh bother………

Shove it MS shove it all the way in. I could care less. Why bother rubbing in our faces the monopoly that is MS. Lets move on to something more interesting. Let’s see here, hhmmmmm. Oh I got it lets talk about DOMO’s. Where did that thing originate from I dont know but I have a ton of them hanging out in my office.

    • DOMO Arigato, Mr. Roboto

And no, I have no idea what a DOMO is or what you’re referring to, but in my head I picture a bunch of robots hanging in your office.

      Murderer.

  • This is no surprise but really I couldn’t care less I have a PS3 and Xbox and I don’t use the NetFlix on Xbox anyways. For what ever reason the download engine is way faster on my PS3 so I just rent movies from the service they already have.

    Big James

  • I’m not sure I understand what Netflix has to gain from this arrangement. Aren’t there a WHOLE lot more Wii’s in the wild with precisely the right profile of customers they want? That is.. from the very young all the way to the very old in every income bracket and location? The 360 is a decent platform but doesn’t it seem very myopic of Netflix to limit their game console audience to only the XBOX 360 owners? What did MIcrosoft offer Netflix?

  • 1 Million Bajillion Gazillion Dollars!

  • Don’t believe the hippe… (go to http://www.PlayOn.tv)

    PS3 + PlayOn = netflix (and hulu, etc…)

xbox + PlayOn = netflix, hulu, etc (without the need for Live Gold subscription)

Wii + PlayOn = rumors are it’s coming soon :-)

    • i use playon with my ps3 and it’s amazing. They had a propmotion so i bought the software for $20 and I can say it really is worth it. You also get tons of other stuff with it as well like hulu etc.

  • Hey thanks Flylulu. You neglected to mention one little thing. You can try PlayOn for free for 2 weeks. As for those Wii rumors, well, rumors happen for a reason. :) Get the trial here http://www.themediamall.com/playon/lp200907?rsrc=Techcrunch

  • I hope that the rumors about the wii are true because i was counting on it.

  • Am I the only one that notices an embedded link to Gizmodo’s Xbox 360 tag? Why the strange link instead of proper sourcing? You obviously got this from Giz, so why no linke to the original article?
