It looks like the Zune HD’s aspirations go beyond simply showing HD video on your TV. It is, in fact, a home theater PC in your pocket. I don’t to sound like I’m shilling here, but it really is a pretty serious advance in PMPs, unless (and this is certainly possible) there are ones already doing this equally well over in South Korea or Japan. It looks quick, sharp, and easy to navigate, as well as simply being better looking than many full-size media boxes out there.
Apple may have the the sexiest player around, and it’ll be even better after the September announcement, but the Zune HD really, really has it beat in this situation.

Why did you have to and ruin a perfectly good article. In the end it just sound like youre trying to justify your future apple products. The UI on the zune hd looks great (most people say better than apples products) both on the device and on the player, lets just leave it at that.
I’m just being honest, the iPod Touch is a better-looking device with a nice large screen and great services. It’s the standard against which the Zune will be compared. It’s sexy. Plus, why I can’t love more than one gadget at a time?

Looks good. It’s definitely a glimpse of the future of PC’s. Just imagine the day when you doc your phone/pc and have it available on your monitor or HDTV. Not too far away.
Too bad the Browser is not available through the menu too. It would be nice to be able to browse the internet on the hdtv.

The iPod touch had its day in the sun, now it’s time has past, adding a camera just seems kind of sad
1.The hardware features are only any good if you can actually DO something with them, there is no sdk announced as yet and besides which – haven’t we been through this feature laundry list shenanigans before? when the iPhone launched everyone compared it to phone x with a better camera or phone y with better bluetooth stack, turns out that people wanted a phone that is easy to use and just works
2, Come on, nothing comes close to the fluidity and attention to detail of the iPhone interface, played out? keep watching, Apple will leverage this interface with the tablet and everything will change.

Considering MS has released free SDKs for Windows Mobile, the 360, just about everything, I think the chances of the Zune HD not getting a SDK, especially if it support apps, is just about nil.

Sorry but the GUI is a total mess, I have tried it, this UI is far easier to both navigate and organize media, if you have a large amount of media or apps on an iPhone, the thing is a total mess.
And I see nothing but more future promises “OMG, the tablet will change everything!”

This reminds me of the “who needs flash? who needs replacable memory? who needs a replacable battery?” bull arguments people try to make to defend the fact that the iPhone can’t do it.
Who wants their phone to output 720p? EVERYBODY who uses it as a media device, it will be your personal DVR that you can either plug into a TV or take with you anywhere you want to go, who WOULDEN’T want that?
Yeah, a crappy low quality CAMERA, now THAT is what people want in a multimedia device, not the ability to play HD movies on a big screen…. they want it to resize pictrures by pinching the screen and have a terrible quality camera, who cares about making it useful by connecting it to a TV.

Desperate? Desperate? Apple adding a camera to the iPod Touch is deperate, they are just adding rancom features to make peopel wnat to buy the next new shiney product with an Apple logo on it.

Why do none of those things work together… why can’t my pc look pretty like this? Why is the xbox still inferior media device than a hack (xbmc) was more than 5 years ago?

There are already plans for WInMo/Zune/360 integration, and your PC CAN look like this if you use Windows Media Center.
Plus your 360 can stream media from your PC.

Am I the only one who feels this gui is a bit no-frills? Black and white, almost text only, and the only transition effect I saw was when you were exiting OUT of a picture/video, not even into one.
And I realize the irony of this coming from someone who always said he prefers function over form and owns and uses several do-anything very powerful gadgets that leave their appearance to be desired………… but this UI seems a little TOO simplistic don’t you think?

Yo incase u dont know the UI is more than Black and white. You just flick ur finger to the right and OMG Pins History and NEW videos pics and music u just put on it is there OMG with color PICS. you rly think MS would make it just Black and white lol. Plus the OLED screen no1 yet mentioned its FANTASTIC!! the IE browser is quick and responsive and yes there is no flash yet but who cares!! they will just make a youtube app like the itouch and such. -_-” so please get ur facts right apple fanboy!
