superion

I know that I’m totally out of Hasbro’s targeted demo, but the Target exclusive Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Superion is the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to assemble. A month after the fact, I still haven’t been able to put it together, which is why Target is hooking us up with five Superions to give away. I challenge all of you to do better than me (if you win). I remember the days when Hasbro’s Transformers toys were totally awesome and easy to put together. What the heck happened? I also miss the red decoder bonus from the old toys.

You want one of these, right? Yes, you do. And all you have to do to win one of five is tell us who your favorite Autobot or Decepticon is and why. Your response must be at least 100 words or you’re disqualified. We’ll pick the winners on Friday at 12PM ET.

This is what Superion is supposed to look like.

  • Dood that is easy my favorite decepticon has always been soundwave. I always dug how he had that cool A track player slapped on to his chest. In actuality I know it was a tape deck but I say A-track player because when I was a kid that is what all my uncles had in their cars. LOL I remember they would always say wow soundwave has a tape player? He must be the most expensive robot to buy in stores. LMAO! Anyway soundwave for the win I challenge anyone to mention a cooler decepticon than soundwave. He was and always will be the sh*t with his cool tapedeck that turned into a robot eagle or vulture or something. Not to mention his awesome robotic voice d00d he is Techno period Soundwave where are you I want to hear from you now!

  • My fave was a very rare Autobot. He was only in three episodes of the original series and only in one did he transform. Of course, he was in the second movie as a senile Autobot. This is, of course, Jetfire. The coolest thing about him, is the original toy. He was based entirely on the Super Veritech from Robotech (Macross for those of you across the Pacific) and was one of the few transformers that was stable in a variety of poses. Heck, his feet moved… not to mention the HUGE gun he had. When I was 10, this was pretty awesome, he could kick the heck out of any of the other toys I had by simply, well, kicking them. God, I miss that toy. I think one of my cousins stole it. Little *#@*)&s.

  • My favorite decepticon has to be .. DEVASTATOR !! I really love the way they did to put out the robots to combine together … i really liked how he looked in the original cartoon, with that green and purple colours .. Of course im a big fan of construction vehicles too, so a decepticon that is formed by lots of construction vehicles is just AWESOME !! The new DEVASTATOR was ok .. i just wished he would have appear lot more in the movie.. hopefully we will see a new Devastator in the next movie … so one of the GREATEST and BIGGEST Decepticon ever can come back !! WOOHOO !!

  • My favorite Decepticon(s) is/are the Constructicons/Devastator. They were the very first combining team that has six members, not five like the Stunticons, the Combaticons, etc. Many more combiner teams followed after that but the way they transform into their respective giant robot is slightly different. Devastator did not require one bigger robot for the arms and legs to attach to. It require two robots to form the central part of Devastator and the way it transforms into this central part is different than other combiner teams. I also like their individual robot modes and vehicle modes which add the appeals to this toy. The vehicles actually transforms into robots not like the Transformers 2 movie Devastator.

The giftset was by far my favorite with the giant Devastator art on the box. Again, other combiner giftsets followed Devastator’s giftset.

I heard there’s a reissue giftset of G1 Devastator and I will buy it without hesitation no matter what the cost is.

  • Hands down, Ravage.

Who did not want a robotic killer dog as a kid. But besides being completely bad ass, it was the only one that my mother couldn’t take away from you. Try whipping Optimus Prime out during Sunday Mass, good luck with that. Trusty Ravage was always there in your pocket like a little secret.

Somehow Ravage was also the only one I never lost the parts too. Devastator’s hands lasted about an hour. His head lasted maybe a week. Optimus’s trailer, maybe a month. I don’t know how but I still have those two missiles that attached to the sides of Ravage.

  • My favorite transformer is the autobot Optimus Prime. Not only is he a powerhouse amongst the normal sized transformers and can go head to head with the dreaded Megatron, but he encompasses all the characteristics that make a fine leader. He is totally devoted to the autobot cause and shoulders his responsibility as autobot leader and keeper of the Matrix of Leadership very seriously. His strength of character and conviction inspires the other autobots and provides an aura of confidence. He is relentless in his defense of humanity and all life, which make his constant sacrifices seem all the most worthwhile. And also, he’s just badass. Seeing that he is probably the transformer that has been released in the most versions since 1984 is no coincidence and his popularity is such that some guy even changed his name to Optimus Prime. Simply put, Optimus Prime rocks.

  • My favorite Decepticon has always been Starscream for the plain and simple fact that the guy never gives up. He is always challenging Megatron’s authority and even though he’s constantly put back in his place, even on a few occasions realizing he needs Megatron to lead, he just keeps coming back, hoping against hope that one day he’ll be the leader of the Decepticons. We could all learn a lesson from this two-timing robot. In life, there are occasions where we should really “go for gold,” as it were, but when someone steps on us and puts us back in our place, we back off and never know just how sweet victory can taste. The sad part is, we may not get as many chances as Starscream did, so we should have all the more reason to push forward and grab the goal we so desperately want to attain and not let anyone, friends, family, even Megatron, to stand in the way of following our dreams. Who knew sneaky Starscream was such a deep and profound figure?

  • I think your right arm and right leg are mixed up?

My favorite Autobot is Bumblebee. He hasn’t always been, at one point I was a big fan of Optimus Prime. But as one must adjust to keep up with society, I have been watching the new movies and am very impressed with how they have portrayed Bumblebee. He is not only a super-tough, ass-kicking robot but also nearly human, with reactions that we would expect to see amongst ourselves. My favorite scene with Bumblebee is in the first Transformers movie (I know, it’s crazy that it isn’t in the original cartoon series…), when Bumblebee is constantly changing the radio station to try to shift the mood. That’s the new classic.

  • My favorite Autobot was Blur; he was always talking fast and you couldn’t really understand what he said so you had to rewind the tape and listen to him really carefully but he still talked too fast but now I’ve got the DVD of the original Transformers Movie (”You’ve Got The Touch!”) so I can just turn on subtitles when he’s talking so I can finally figure out what he’s saying but it wasn’t really worth it anyway and he was hyperactive and that was his entire persona but he was a car so being a fast futuristic robot car from space meant it was ok to talk fast and make it difficult for mere mortals to understand your rambling thoughts and interjections and conversations with other alien robots but the Blur toy I had back twenty-plus years ago wasn’t very rugged by any stretch of the imagination so I broke the hood trying to attach it to him in car mode one day so then I had to use it very carefully and he never drove very fast around my room after that incident and that was sad but I still played with him even after he broke because, come on, Blur, but then I forgot how fun it was to play with Transformers and grew up into an adult child who still plays video games especially Wii Sports Golf because I can play it with my four year old daughter and she thinks that a plus score in golf means she wins and I don’t have the heart to tell her that “Daddy is still winning these games dear and when you’re old enough to beat me I’ll just hide all the AA batteries so who’s winning now, huh” and anyway I sold all my Transformers toys to some dealer on eBay for like $250 before the movies were even out and 419 scammers didn’t use eBay back then so I hope the dealer made his money back and my toys are in some fantastic Transformer collection or being played with by someone who loves them and remembers the good old days and even plays with Blur even though his hood is not really in mint condition but he is a much loved toy and a part of my childhood that I would never trade away, especially to kids who grew up watching Pokemon because, really? Pokemon?

  • My favorite based on the toy alone has to be Soundwave. As a kid in the 80s that was the only piece of technology I had, an actual cassette player wouldn’t come until later. Plus the dude carried his back up with him in his chest compartment, how bad ass was that. Thinking about it now of course it was slightly odd that although all of the other transformers (at least the five or six others that I had) turned into vehicles or instruments of war that this little guy just pops into the form of a stationary entertainment device. But screw that, to six or seven year old me there was nothing cooler than a robot that turned into a tape player.

  • I asked my husband David, who is a huge Transformers fan, to provide me with an answer. He would make short work of putting this toy together, and I’d be happy to send you or post a picture. I am amazed I have never heard this story before:

“Starscream wormed his way out of other children’s hearts and into mine. It was a fitting act of his trademark conniving that brought me the toy. Having blown my birthday cash days prior in that very same toy aisle, I spotted a stack of my favorite transformer on a shelf nearby. I hastily hid all but one behind a Hot Wheels playset. Soon, Dad arrived. In a burst of tears, I announced there was only one left. I’d be forced to face my friends in shame. Minutes later, I walked out grinning: a bold feat of treachery that screamed Starscream.”

  • My favorite Decepticon is Megatron… the real Megatron. You know. The badass gun Megatron, from a time when little boys could run around with toy guns that actually looked like guns. Toys were serious business when I was a kid. If you weren’t careful, they may actually get you shot.

The best Transformer around combined two things that every little boy understands and loves:

    Guns and badass transforming robots.

What can I say? I was a child of the eighties.

I know I will be laughed at, but my favorite is still Optimus Prime. Yeah, lame – “oh, he likes the hero!”, but you asked the favorite, and that’s what you get.

There are few reasons he still is my favorite. First, he’s a truck. A BIG truck. I’ve been a fan of trucks since a very young age – I used to ride my toy semis and truck-trailer combos until I got too big. They were made VERY well – I never got too heavy for them, just too tall. (They were all-metal Tonka trucks – sorry Hasbro – and predated Transformers by a decade or two.) My mother has a picture or two of me smiling while riding.

Second, he’s a truck, but always (well, almost always) manages to not only keep up with, but also beat up on A FREAKING JET! How cool is that? (I admit, though, the jets turning to robots as they landed were cool, too.) And he managed to lead a team of cars/trucks who all managed to do the same.

Third, his PSAs were invaluable – especially the one about prostate cancer. I am of the age to get checked, and I did ask my doctor about it after seeing the PSA. (And… AND…. Optimus turned into a freaking coffin during that PSA! Very cool!)

  • My favorite autobot as a toy was Omega Supreme. I still have some of the original parts that I have handed down to my son. I am missing the main part of the tank that went around the track and a couple of yellow fastners. By far my favorite to play with because it was so much bigger than the other transformers.

As for the cartoon, my favorite autobot was Jazz. What kid didn’t like the cool voice and quick sayings. He was the epitome of 80’s cool.

Favorite decipticon toy was Astro-train. The 80’s was also about the space race and that toy made any wannabe astronaut kid dream about the space shuttle.

Favorite decipticon from the cartoon soundwave. The guy had an army of full of minions, each of which in their own way was cool.

  • Jetfire is my favorite Transformer. He was a Decepticon scientist from eons ago and became frozen the polar ice caps on Earth. Upon waking up he was greeted by Decepticons. And soon enough Jetfire realized he didn’t like their war mongering ways. This in my estimation ups his cool factor 100 fold. He became an Autobot. And at that time one of the only Autobot airplanes! He was a very large robot indeed, so big he could airlift Optimus, Bumble-Bee and many others at once. The “Revenge of the Fallen” version was also cool (probably the only cool thing about the movie) Britished voice and crotchety old robot war vet was he.

  • “Stick it in neutral, Megatron!” Ah, the words of the immortal Optimus Prime. In nearly every incarnation, he leads the Autobots against the evil Decepticons and their leader Megatron. This fact, along with his amazing and always trendy color scheme make him my favorite transformer ever. I’m not just saying that, really, I’m not.

Everyone has their bad days, sometimes we can lose the fight, but very few beings have the awesomeness to come back from the dead again, and again, becoming more awesome each time they do it. Optimus Prime is the king of awesome.

Secondly, even Michael Bay knows this one, Optimus can kick anyone’s butt. How many times has he had to defeat a ton of decepticons on his own? Heck, he chops that Blackout clone in the second movie to pieces, with duel swords (I would have liked to see the energy ax though…= (. )

I could go on and on for days about how Optimus Prime is my favorite, and why he is the best transformer ever. Sadly, I don’t have all the time in the world, nor that much space for the comment.

  • What’s better than dinosaurs? ROBOT DINOSAURS! I loved Grimlock. He was easily one of the most powerful autobots. He might not have been too clever but he knew the enemy and knew the most delightfully entertaining ways to wreak mayhem on the decepticons. There weren’t many who even dared to try and stand between Grimlock and his single minded mission to scrap whatever was in his way. Granted, that happened to be friendlies sometimes, but you have to admire his dedication to SMASHing the likes of which even the Hulk envies.

  • The Transformer I always liked was Opitmus Prime. He was a leader who was cool, calm, and knew just what to do. (well, most of the time).

As a kid we sometimes looked for heroes in the the strangest places. Here was a bigger than life robot that transformed into a huge truck and kicked butt. He had loyal friends and did the right thing. When you are eight years old, that can make a big impact on your young mind and you don’t seem to forget your first hero even if he was a cartoon and a transforming robot.

  • Elita One, leader of the female Autobots. She was not just Optimus Prime’s girlfriend. She was the leader of the female Autobots on fighting for freedom on Cybertron. That was important for those of us ladies that also enjoyed transformers. She could also freeze time which is a pretty solid skill all in all. I think it was a little sad that the female Autobots were only in a few episodes of the original series. They definitely should have been included more, or gotten a She-Ra: Princess of Power style spin off. It was also weak that when she used her ability to stop time she needed a man to save her, because it “drained her power”.

  • My favorite transformer would undoubtedly be the new decepticon from Transformers 3, Sideways; he emerged in the movie as the beautiful car, the Audi R8, quite possibly the most beautiful car of our time. He is my favorite transformer because of hi s marvelous taste and beautiful 5.2 liter FSI V10 engine that will go from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 196.4 miles per hour. Even Bumblebee has to be jealous of those figures. However I find that many toys do a lackluster job of impersonating the transformer and are given a generic logo, instead of the famed four rings of Audi.

  • Shockwave! Because he’s awesome, why else?

  • Omega Supreme: he’s like the other transformers except beefed up with lettuce, tomatoes, and sour creme.

The Legend: fling yourself far into the future and imagine a picturesque day in meta-transformer (combiner?) heaven. We see three couples, arms interlocked, lollygagging their afterlives away: Menasor and Superion, Bruticus and Defensor, Abonimus and Computron. Nothing could mar a day like this, except poor Devastator all alone in the distance… His only crime was being the first of his kind. We see a rocket pierce through the clouds — lo, it’s transforming into Omega Supreme’s arm! The rest of him magically appears, and gives Devestator a big hug. Everyone starts doing the hokey pokey — yup, that’s what it’s all about.

(it’s true: OS was actually the autobots’ answer to Devastator.)

The Machine: OS was a technological marvel and behemoth of a toy. Hwas the first (only?) transformer, IIRC, that took batteries. He transformed into a rocket base, a “perimeter” track, and a tank that would circle the track till the batteries dripped dry.

The Man: while most autobots preferred contributing in the thick of battle, our man OS was content ringing around his rocket, waiting for the action to come to him. I bet 50% or more of us would confess to the same. No shame in that, and OS empowered us to admit it.

  • My favorite Decepticon is Brawl. He is my favorite because his vehicle mode is a tank and I like tanks. I like him because he has lots of missile launchers too. I also like him because he is tall and strong. In the Transformers movie that I saw with my uncle Sark, he got one of his shoulder mounted missile launchers ripped off by Jazz during the last battle. He also surprise attacked the army and autobots while he was in tank mode and I like the surprise attack because when he did it he did it from behind their defense line and the other decepticons were in front of the defense line. He is not so smart but that’s ok.
I like people that look cool and he looks cool. I like decepticons most because in movies I like the bad guys most of the time.

    Jack – 9

  • My favorite transformer is Bumblebee. I like him because he keeps pushing the button on Optimus. And I like his character in the Transformers movie, how he protects Sam. He is also very cool when he is in car mode because he can go so so fast. And in the cartoon transformers movies that we watch sometimes he does big high jumps and I think once I even saw him do a flip. And I also like him because he has a cannon and in the new movie he has stingers. I also like him because he is a lot like me – i like pushing peoples buttons and i wish i had stingers.

I also promised my uncle that if he would enter this for me that I will always read crunchgear, even though I don’t exactly know what that means.

    Emma, 7

  • Soundwave, hands down. I mean, he had a working cassette slot that you could put other kick ass transformers in. Ravage and those crazy birds were the best. And he really looked like a cassette deck of the times. Awesome.

  • Rattrap.

I know, I know, he’s a Maximal from Beast Era of the G1 Continuity, but heck — Arcee was his great aunt, so he’s at least connected to the original mythos.

Rattrap is a pessimist, and is often quoted saying “We’re all gonna die” and his first thought is usually to shoot first and ask questions later. He’s become cynical with age, and is possibly the oldest member of the Axalon’s crew. That cynicism and Rattraps constant sarcasm are why I relate to him more than any other Transformers character.

That, and he turns into a giant rat, and everyone knows Rodents of Unusual Size are awesome.

    • Egads, I screwed up my grammar –

“Rattrap is a pessimist, and is often quoted saying ‘We’re all gonna die’ and his first thought is usually to shoot first and ask questions later.”

      Should be:

“Rattrap is a pessimist, is often quoted saying ‘We’re all gonna die,’ and his first thought is usually to shoot first and ask questions later.”
